Goes 1, 2 with Mark Tucker to earn berths in 50th PGA Professional Championship
Cazenovia Golf Club professional Dennis Colligan last week won the Central New York PGA Professional Championship at Seven Oaks Golf Club and will lead four Section PGA Professionals to compete in the 50th PGA Professional Championship in June 2017 at Sunriver Resort in Oregon.
Colligan turned in a winning total of +3 (147) to capture the Central New York PGA Professional Champion title, which was played Aug. 22 and 23. Mark Tucker of Cazenovia Golf Club finished tied for second place with Michelle Murphy of Oswego Country Club at +4 (148). They are joined by Michael Deuel of En-Joie Golf Club.
Deuel was tied with Jeff Reader, of Cavalry Club, at the completion of play, however, Deuel prevailed in a sudden death playoff on the 18th hole to capture the fourth and final spot.
Colligan, who birdied the final hole to win by one, is now a two-time champion of the Section’s most prestigious tournament, previously winning in 2010.
The PGA Professional Championship, carrying a $550,000 total purse this year, brings together a field of 312 contestants representing the PGA of America’s 41 nationwide Sections.
The Championship will be broadcast (all four rounds) by Golf Channel. Following 36 holes of play, the field will be trimmed to the low 90 scorers and ties, and following 54 holes of play, the field will be trimmed to the low 70 scorers and ties.
