BALDWINSVILLE – Great as it was for the Baldwinsville football team to earn back-to-back victories after dropping four games in a row, neither of those wins took place in front of home fans.
It wasn’t until Friday night that the crowd at Pelcher-Arcaro Stadium got to enjoy a successful Bees venture this fall, a big second quarter propelling B’ville as it rolled past Fayetteville-Manlius 41-13.
Though it reached the sectional Class A finals a season ago, the Hornets had yet to win a game this season, hit hard by graduation and unable to find anyone to match the production senior running back T.J. Conley took with him.
Things did not improve for F-M at B’ville, whose confidence from those wins at Utica Proctor and Liverpool carried over into this game and especially took hold once the first quarter was done.
Already with a 7-0 advantage, the Bees put together three scoring drives in that second period, leaning toward its ground game as it put up a trio of touchdowns to stretch out its advantage to 28-0.
Two more TD’s followed in the third period, with Kaleb Young at the forefront as he gained 140 yards on 14 carries, an average of 10 yards per run, with Teishawn Wade adding 54 yards on just six carries, exactly nine yards per run.
Greg Marinelli, aside from his 52 yards on the ground that led to three short TD sprints, completed eight of 17 passes for 107 yards, with seven of those completions going to Trevor Valenti, Nico Wellman and Logan McIntyre.
B’ville’s defense did not allow any points until the reserves were in the game in the fourth quarter. Dylan Garcia continued to lead this unit, amassing 11 tackles as Jordan White earned eight tackles. McIntyre and Kallen Kennedy had six tackles apiece.
Now the Bees would find out just how much it had grown, and how much work remains before the Section III playoffs, when it travels next Friday to Alibrandi Stadium to face unbeaten, state Class AA no. 9-ranked Christian Brothers Academy. Kickoff is at 6:30.
