CICERO – Start to finish, the Baldwinsville boys track and field team left every other rival far behind them, both in league competition and, ultimately, the Section III Class AA ranks.
The Bees were triumphant again in Wednesday’s sectional AA meet at Cicero-North Syracuse’s Bragman Stadium, where with 163 points it nearly doubled the total of hosts C-NS (89 points) in the runner-up spot.
A symbolic effort was the Bees’ 1-2-3 sweep in the 400-meter dash. Logan Hayes won it in 50.38 seconds to Jack McAllister’s second-place 50.60 and Evan Smith finishing third in 51.76. Hayes also took third in the 200-meter dash in 22.69.
More points came from the 1,600-meter run where Solomon Holden-Betts won in 4:21.36, edging Fayetteville-Manlius’ Nolan McGinn (4:22.72) as Noah Covert was fourth (4:31.81) and Ryan Wilson fifth (4:32.81).
Holden-Betts went from there to an 800-meter run where, in 1:56.49, he edged Auburn’s Keegan Brady (1:56.82) as Jeff Ragonese finished third in 1:59.44. In the 3,000 steeplechase, Holden-Betts nearly gained a third title, but his 10:06.51 was nipped by teammate Noah Covert’s 10:05.69 as Keagan Hayes (10:38.53) was fifth.
B’ville also took two of the three relays, starting in the 4×800, where Ragonese, McAllister, Logan Hayes and Paul Clark went 8:19.38, pulling away from Fayetteville-Manlius (8:26.74) and the field. Later, in the 4×400, Hayes, McAllister, Evan Smith and Zach Arria won in 3:27.56 to hold off C-NS (3:29.70) and prevail.
In the pole vault, Kyle Sheckler cleared 11 feet 6 inches, second to the 13 feet from Rome Free Academy’s William D’Agata as Owen Johnson (9’6″) finished fourth. Griffin Killian cleared 5’6″ for fifth place in the high jump.
David Dobrowolski was third in the shot put, heaving it 47 feet as Daimel Fowler was fifth (43’1 3/4″) and Gibson Boudov sixth (40’1 1/4″), with Dobrowolski adding a third-place discus throw of 133’2″ as Auburn star Dustin Swartwood won with 160 feet.
Nathan Glidden earned 2,035 points to get third place in the pentathlon behind C-NS teammates Xander Provost and Andrew Potter. Logan Zapf took third in the 110 high hurdles in 15.90 seconds and third in the triple jump with 40’10 1/2″ as Wyatt Decker (39’3 1/4″) took fifth, with Wilson third in the 3,200-meter run in 9:53.60 and Kozman (9:58.77) fifth.
Kaleb Paul got eighth in the 100-meter dash in 11.34 before helping Brandon Levin, Anthony Noda and Declan Pridmore get fourth in the 4×100 relay in 45.06 seconds. Jonah Offredi was sixth in the 400 hurdles in 1:02.55 ahead of Jackson Creelman in seventh (1:03.21) and Wyatt Decker in eighth (1:03.54). Pridmore was eighth (19’1 3/4″) and Zapf ninth (18’10 1/4″) in the long jump.
On the girls side in the sectional Class AA meet, B’ville made its way to fourth place, earning 56.50 points. C-NS won, its 184 points well clear of second-place Liverpool’s 106.92.
Sydney McKenney, clearing 10 feet, again won the pole vault over Liverpool’s Layla Pearl Collins (9 feet), to go with a fourth in the 400 hurdles in 1:13.16 and a 10th (16.95 seconds) in the 100 hurdles.
Also victorious was the Bees’ 4×400 side as Avamarie Davis, Brianna Grosso, Kamryn Barton and Madison Kennedy would hold off West Genesee, 4:12.09 to 4:12.60, in a close finish, this after a 4×100 where Davis, Natalie Bartkowiak, Aaniya Johnson and Emerson Clavijo went 52.11 seconds, trailing only Liverpool’s 51.20.
Kennedy, in 1:01.48, was second in the 400 sprint to C-NS’s Kate Putman (59.02), who also won the 1,500 and 3,000. In the 4×800, Kennedy, Grosso, Adrianna Orlando and Clare Horan were fourth in the 4×800 in 10:26.49 and Nela Loftin fourth in the triple jump, going 33’9 3/4″ ahead of Erin Gregoire (32′ 1/2″) in eighth place.
Yolanda Wei went 8:10.10 in the 2,000 steeplechase for fourth place. Johnson gained fifth place in the 100 sprint in 13.01 seconds and seventh (27.38) in the 200. Rachel Becker was eighth and Adelyn Ameigh-Coggan ninth in the 400 hurdles. Gregoire tied for ninth in the high jump, clearing 4’6″.
