CENTRAL NEW YORK – Far from the big games happening elsewhere, the Westhill boys lacrosse team jumped all over Tully/Fabius-Pompey last Tuesday afternoon, leading 10-1 after one quarter and prevailing by a 17-6 margin.
Luke Gilmartin, with four goals and two assists, and Owen Etoll, with three goals and three assists, led the way, with Charlie DeMore adding three goals and one assist.
Also productive, Emmet Starowicz got two goals and three assists as Andrew Mondo and Tom Pendergast each scored twice and added an assist.
Then Westhill handled Jordan-Elbridge 11-3 on Thursday night, the Eagles actually keeping it close and earning a second-quarter shutout to only trail 4-2 at halftime.
However, Westhill netted six unanswered goals in the third quarter to get away, Gilmartin earning four goals and two assists as Starowicz got two goals and three assists.
DeMore and Pendergast also scored twice as Nixon Karcz had two of the Eagles’ three goals, the other going to Wyatt Werth.
Going for a fourth win in a row Saturday night against New Hartford, Westhill could not quite pull it off, falling 11-10 to the Spartans.
New Hartford built a 5-2 lead by halftime and held on led by Dan Friede’s five goals and Walker Williams’ 12 saves in goal. Keller O’Hern made 14 saves as Gilmartin got four goals, with Etoll, Starowicz and Mondo each scoring twice.
Prior to this, J-E lost, 12-5, to Cazenovia last Tuesday, all the damage done when the Lakers scored seven unanswered goals in the second quarter.
Five different Eagles – Karcz, Werth, Joe LaFleur, Brayden Kitterle and Elias Titus – had the Eagles’ goals. Austin Brunelle earned 16 saves as Casey Ryan earned two assists.
Only on Saturday did J-D break this skid, defeating Section IV’s Dryden 16-4 as it flew out to a 13-2 advantage by halftime, ultimately improving its overall record to 6-6.
