SYRACUSE – What the Baldwinsville boys indoor track and field team accomplished throughout a stellar regular season continued straight into the first event of the post-season, too.
Earning 186 points, the Bees nearly doubled the total of runner-up Cicero-North Syracuse’s 94 and won Thursday’s Salt City Athletic Conference Metro division championships at SRC Arena.
B’ville swept the distance events, going 1-2 in the 3,200-meter run, where Ryan Wilson prevailed in a personal-best nine minutes, 54.71 seconds as Noah Covert was second in 10:00.94. It was the same in the 1,000-meter run, Jack McAllister (1:27.81) edging Jack McAllister (1:27.82) by one-hundredth of a second.
Wilson returned at 1,600 meters, where his time of 4:42.06 was behind Solomon Holden-Betts’ winning 4:24.13 that put him inside the state top 10 at that distance. Finally, in the 4×800 relay, Holden-Betts, Covert, Zach Arria and Jeff Ragonese needed 8:25.23 to hold off Fayetteville-Manlius (8:27.03) for the top spot.
Pairing to win the 4×200 relay, McAllister, Brandon Levin, Anthony Noda and Logan Hayes posted 1:34.26 to beat C-NS’s 1:36.11. McAllister, Arria, Brayden Bolton and Kyle Sheckler were second (3:36.29) to West Genesee (3:33.91) in the 4×400 relay.
David Dobrowolski swept the throwing events, as his weight throw of 48 feet 4 1/2 inches prevailed over Nick Foster (46’3 1/2″) in second place. Also, Dobrowolski threw the shot put 40’11” to prevail over a field that included teammate Dimitri Ioannidis, who was third with 39’5 3/4″.
Sheckler dominated the pole vault,clearing 12 feet 6 inches as Dylan Wertheim was third with 9’6″. Griffin Killian topped 5’4″ for third in the high jump and added a ninth (19’1″) in the long jump, with Kaleb Paul fifth (5’2″) in the high jump.
Levin went 6.68 seconds for third place in the 55-meter dash, edged by C-NS’s Davine Bennett in 6.67 as Noda (6.95) was ninth. Levin finished fourth in the long jump with 20’5 1/2″ as Jackson Creelman got third in the 55-meter hurdles in 8.41.
Also, B’ville’s girls had a strong showing at the SCAC Metro meet, finishing third with 70 points behind C-NS and Liverpool, highlighted by a pole vault where Sydney McKenney won by topping 10’6″ and Kelsey Dwyer was second, topping 9 feet.
In the 4×400, the Bees had Mia Pozzi, Avamarie Davis, Clare Horan and Madison Kennedy prevail in 4:15.94, pulling away from second-place C-NS (4:22.97).
Pozzi took third in the 55-meter dash in a season-best 7.69 second as Anaiya Johnson (7.81) was seventh. Later, in the 300, Pozzi was fourth in 43.97 and Kennedy fifth in 44.84, with Kennedy, Davis, Johnson and Kelsey Dwyer fourth in the 4×200 in 1:53.87.
In the 4×800, B’ville had Kamryn Barton, Sophia Cavalieri, Yolanda Wei and Adrianna Orlando got second in 10:27.29. Barton went 5:09.74 at 1,500 meters for fourth place, ahead of Emilee Salzman in eighth place. Brianna Grosso took seventh in the 600 in 1:49.41, with Horan (1:54.77) in eighth place.
Julianna Gingrich contended in the shot put, her personal-best 32’11” second to Liverpool’s Allie Cary (36’6 1/2″) as Isabella Mitts was ninth with 23’3″. Paige Bohman had a fifth-place weight throw of 29’9 1/4″, with Mitts again ninth (24’2 1/2″) as Natalie Bartkowiak was fifth in the long jump with 31’5″ to go with a ninth (13’6 1/2″) in the long jump.
Wei was sixth in the 3,000-meter run in 11:51.65 as Lily Horan (12:50.70) finished ninth. Mary Sabatino went 3:26.31 in the 1,000 to finish sixth, with Erin Seitzer ninth in 3:47.62.
McKenney was also seventh in the 55 hurdles in 9.97 seconds, with Johnson (10.56) in 10th place as McKenney topped 4’6″ in the high jump for eighth place.
