LITTLE FALLS – Kyla Palmer continued her dazzling spring campaign and, with a trio of sprint victories, led the Skaneateles girls track and field team to a second-place finish in Thursday’s Section III Class B-2 championships at Little Falls.
Palmer started with a top time of 12.60 seconds to edge Altmar-Parish-Williamstown’s Isabella Scott (12.61) by one-hundredth of a second for the victory. She then won the 400-meter dash in 59.29, the only time under a minute, and in the 200-meter dash, where she has the school record, Palmer prevailed in 26.17 seconds.
All told, Skaneateles had 92 points, edging Clinton (88 points) for the runner-up spot as Cazenovia prevailed with 142.5 points.
Lillian Coleman added a title when she ran 800 meters in 2:33.25, edging eighth-grade teammate Lucy Fleckenstein, who was second in 2:35 flat. Coleman, Cate Comer, Grace Conan and Tobi DiRubbo were second in the 4×800 relay in 10:48.83, with DiRubbo second (12:08.63) and Fleckenstein third (12:32.27) in the 3,000-meter run.
Maddie Wright got a second-place finish in the pentathlon, earning 2,208 points to closely follow Lowville’s Eliana Bonbrest (2,389). The Lakers took third in the 4×400 relay in 4:32.54.
Jordan-Elbridge saw Vassianna Klock run 1,500 meters in 4:48.21 to pull away and win as Fleckenstein was second in 5:26.21. Later, in the 2,000 steeplechase, Klock again dominated, her time of 7:31.5 the only one under the eight-minute mark.
The Eagles swept both steeplechase events, with Peyton Bates stepping up in the boys 3,000 to win in 10:40.9, well clear of a field that included teammate Peyton Bates getting fourth place in 11:39.2.
J-E’s Tatianna Parkolap won the high jump by clearing 4’10”, two inches ahead of the field. Teagan Disinger was fifth in the girls pentathlon with 1,276 points. J-E took sixth in the 4×100.
In the boys sectional B-2 meet, Skaneateles got third place with 64 points behind Cazenovia and Clinton, including some wins in field events. Max Paciorek prevailed in the high jump, clearing 5’10” with fewer misses than Jarimia Howe (Holland Patent) and Taevon Jackson (Clinton).
Paciorek also finished sixth in the 200 in 23.58 seconds as Will Feeney, competing in the shot put, beat the field with a throw of 42′ 1/4″ as no one even reached 40 feet. Henry Thompson was fifth in the discus, heaving it 101 feet.
On the track, Jack Phillips tore to second place in the 400 sprint in 52.46 seconds as Cazenovia star Andrew Kent won in 51.64, with Seamus Fogerty third in the 800 in 2:16.50 and Braden Gryzlo fifth.In the 4×400, Fogerty, Paciorek, Phillips and Heschel Eidel were second in 3:37.80 to Cazenovia’s 3:36.63.
Fogerty, Nolan Gryzlo, Braden Gryzlo and Aidan Ward got second in the 4×800 in 8:47.46.Braden Gryzlo took fourth in the 1,600-meter run in 5:02.79, with Ward fourth in the 3,200 and Ethan Leubner sixth in the 400 hurdles.
