BALDWINSVILLE – This was what the Baldwsinsville girls lacrosse team has worked for ever since last June’s heartbreaking defeat to Cicero-North Syracuse in the Section III Class A championship game.
Heavily favored, the Bees are the top seed for the Class A sectional tournament, with a bye straight into this Thursday’s semifinal at East Syracuse Minoa against the winner of Tuesday’s game between Christian Brothers Academy and Rome Free Academy. The final is May 31 at SUNY-Cortland.
As if to further reinforce its status at the top, B’ville welcomed Fayetteville-Manlius to Pelcher-Arcaro Stadium last Tuesday night and was clinical in the way it put away the Hornets 15-4.
They had played just one week earlier at F-M, a far closer game that went 11-7 in the Bees’ favor. Back on home turf, B’ville had no intention of making it that interesting again.
Led by Brianna Peters, Carlie Desimone and Grace Hollenbeck, the Bees matched its total from the first game before halftime, battling its way to an 11-4 advantage.
Then B’ville blanked F-M in the second half, while seeing Peters amass five goals and one assist. Desimone and Hollenbeck both earned three-goal hat tricks, Desimone adding a pair of assists.
Mia Pozzi had two goals and one assist, with single tallies going to Sophia Ianno and Sara Hunter. Sophia Muscolino added an assist. Sam Tanguay and Ava Graham combined to stop 10 of the Hornets’ 14 shots.
B’ville’s boys lacrosse team also was a top seed in Class A, and would on Tuesday play its sectional semifinal at Cicero-North Syracuse’s Bragman Stadium against no. 4 seed Syracuse City, the winner to get C-NS or Liverpool in Friday’s final at that same venue.
