LIVERPOOL – All spring long, the Cicero-North Syracuse girls track and field team has managed to top whatever Fayetteville-Manlius did when they competed head-to-head.
Such was the case again when the Northstars went to Liverpool Thursday and, with 175 points, outlasted the Hornets (158 points) to win the Salt City Athletic Conference Metro division championship meet.
To lead the C-NS girls, Kate Putman,tore to a time of four minutes, 29.43 seconds to win at 1,500 meters over F-M’s Hannah Kaercher (4:35.90) and Izzie Sullivan (4:40.77). Then Putman won the 800 in 2:12.78 to Kaercher’s 2:18.48.
Jaydin Mackey won three times, going 12.99 seconds to beat F-M’s Maya McKenzie (13.10) in the 100-meter dash amd then pulling away to take the 200-meter dash in 26.39, nearly a second ahead of the field
Also, Mackey paired with Camryn Jacob, Grace Murray and Jessica Doty to take the 4×100 relay in 52.60 seconds, edging F-M’s 52.63.
Lilly Capria, clearing 5 feet 1 inch, won the high jump, then took the long jump with 16’1” ahead of teammate Morgan Hayes’ second-place 15’9 1/4”, though Hayes would win the triple jump with 34’3 3/4” as Capria (32’4 1/2”) was third.
Hannah Boyle ran the 400-meter dash in 59.76 seconds to beat Kaercher (1:01.92), and ran 3,000 meters in 10:04.89, second to Sullivan’s 9:57.36 as Marissa Navarra (10:49.10) was fourth.
A close pentathlon had Shannon Brown, with 2,177 points, finish just behind the 2,198 from F-M’s Brigid Teaken. Boyle, Navarra, Cameron Sisk and Elliana Ballagh were second in the 4×800 relay in 9:59.86 to the Hornets’ winning 9:48.72. Danielle Crivelli was third (16.53 seconds) and Murray fifth (17.78) in the 100 hurdles.
Liverpool, who finished fourth with 64 points, had Allie Cary win the shot put with a toss of 34’2 3/4” to beat the 33’1 1/2” from C-NS’s Cha’Nya Jones as Jenna Hayes was fifth. Jones also was second in the discus, heaving it 81’9” as the Warriors had Emily Fenner (78’11”) fourth and the Northstars had Kaleigh Bosimenu fifth.
The Warriors did its best relay work in the 4×400, where Taylor Page, Sophia Jarosz, Lena Young and Emily Aiello were second in 4:15.57, beating C-NS (4:16.08) in third place.
Meghan Moyer ran the 2,000 steeplechase in 7:58.81 for second place, with Kaitlin Fico (8:24.20) fourth.
Page, Kaleigh Buck, Addison Ziegler and Eva Woodworth were third in the 4×800 in 10:05.76. Page got fourth in the 800 in 2:29.13, with Charlotte Warner sixth as Woodworth took fifth and Ziegler sixth in the 1,500.
Natalie Venesky had 1,624 points in the pentathlon to finish fourth, with Young fifth in the 400 sprint and Kaitlyn Burt sixth in the 100 hurdles. Ailanees Lyon took fourth in the pole vault.
In the boys SCAC Metro meet, C-NS claimed third place with 87 points and Liverpool was fifth with 66 points, though both were well back of the winning 183 points from regular-season champion Baldiwnsville.
Going 1-2 in the 110 hurdles, the Northstars had Carlton Garnes prevail in 15.69 seconds and Trevon Walker second in 16.36. Garnes nearly won the triple jump, too, his 40’9” one inch behind B’ville’s Owen Weaver (40’10”) with Garnes also second in the long jump with 20’1”
Gavin McAllister emerged victorious in the pole vault, clearing 10’6” as Liverpool’s Declan Fahy (8’6”) was fourth.
The Northstars were second in the 4×100 in 3:32.48 and fourth in the 4×100 in 45.77 seconds as Ashton Murdock took sixth in the 800. Walker was sixth in the high jump behind Andrew Vinette (5’4”) in fifth place. Anthony Johnson was fifth in the triple jump.
Liverpool, who had 66 points to take fifth place, but it included Ryan Hagan winning the 1,600-meter run in 4:14.61, more than five seconds ahead of the field as C-NS’s Dante Melfi was fifth in 4:39.95.
Jacob Makhlouf finished second at 3,200 meters in 10:02.05. Nick Daley took third in the 400 hurdles in 1:03.68, edging the fourth-place 1:03.98 from C-NS’s Sean Graves. Ny’Quez Madison had a third-place triple jump of 40’6”.
Joe Guindy was third in the discus, heaving it 115’7” as teammate Andrew Tauro (105’2”) was fourth. Guindy also had a fourth-place shot put toss of 37’9 1/2”, with C-NS’s Vince Pisa in fifth place at 37’8 1/2”.
Sajan Mishra was fourth in the pentathlon as the Warriors (8:52.69) beat the Northstars (9:04.90) for fourth place in the 4×800, adding a fourth in the 4×100.
Josiah Dickens took fifth in the 200 in 23.74 seconds and sixth in the 100 in 11.47. Liverpool was sixth in the 4×100.
