CENTRAL NEW YORK – Amid all of the previous weekend’s activity at large-scale meets, what Skaneateles sprinter Kyla Palmer did at the Penfield Invitational was particularly special.
Twice in the same day, Palmer set school records, going 58.33 seconds in the 400-meter dash and then speeding to a time of 25.89 in the 200-meter dash.
When Skaneateles competed again last Wednesday against Jordan-Elbridge, the boys Lakers prevailed over the Eagles 106-22 getting five combined wins from Max Paciorek and John Phillips.
In the 110 high hurdles, Paciorek was first in 17.9 seconds before he went to the 200-meter dash and prevailed in 24.4. Topping his day, Paciorek cleared 5 feet 8 inches to win the high jump.
Phillips, meanwhile, was first in the 100-meter dash in 12.1 seconds and cruised to first in the 400-meter dash in 55.4 seconds. Todd Lincoln also won twice, going 32’10” in the triple jump and 16’8” in the long jump.
Skaneateles also swept the distance races, seeing Aidan Ward go 11:27.5 at 3,200 meters after Seamus Fogerty took the 800 in 2:12.3 and Braden Gryzlo, in 4:59.5, edged J-E’s Alex Kunz (4:59.9) in the 1,600. Allen Cassick earned the Eagles’ lone individual title when he threw the discus 98’9” as teammate Mason Learo (93’4”) was second.
West Genesee hosted Liverpool and Corcoran that same day, able to beat the Cougars 113-14 but taking an 86-46 defeat to the Warriors despite many individual titles.
Chloe Fietze was strong in distance races, taking the 800 in 2:26.9 and the 1,500 in 5:11.5 as Alexis Rydelek heaved the discus 95 feet 5 inches, Adriana Gill took the shot put (27’3”) and Madison Frost cleared 4’4” in the high jump.
Westhill saw its girls team handle Chittenango last Tuesday 104-35 as Ashley Bolesh, who won the 400-meter dash in the April 30 Chittenango Invitational, went 1,500 meters in 4:51.20 on this day.
Angie Mesa-Espinosa swept the 100 (12.5 seconds) and 200 (26.3) sprints, with Katherine Bendall second in both events as Mesa-Espinosa also had a 16-foot long jump.
Ava Baty won the 100 hurdles in 18.1 seconds and went 32’3” in the triple jump as Colleen Patrie (shot put), Morgan Heise (discus), Mary Rewakowski (pole vault), Madison Scherier (high jump) and Kennedy Rose (400 sprint) also won.
On the boys side, Westhill lost, 81-59, despite a sweep of the 4×100 (47.1 seconds), 4×400 (3:38.7) and 4×800 (8:58.9) relays, plus Evan Frost goiong 11.6 seconds in the 100 sprint.
Patrick Mahoney topped 10’6” in the pole vault as Brian Kenny won the 800 in 2:05.2 and Brandon Mulholland the 400 in 53.3 seconds. Joseph Lin won four times for the Bears in the 110 and 400 hurdles, long jump and high jump.
