CENTRAL NEW YORK – The Cazenovia varsity boys outdoor track team hosted Christian Brothers Academy on April 26, winning 119-22 over the Brothers.
Michael Senehi and Andrew Kent led the team, each winning three events. Senehi won the 400 hurdles in 1:06.4 seconds and the 1,600 meters in 5:05.8, both sectional qualifying times and personal records, and was on the 4×800 meter relay. Kent won the 200 meters (24.6 seconds), 400 meters (52.1), and anchored the 4×400 meter relay.
Cooper Hughes and Connor Frisbie were double event winners. Hughes won the 800 in 2:17.8 and anchored the 4×800 meter relay. Frisbie won the long jump (17 feet 8 inches) and triple jump (37’ 7 1/2″).
Single event winners who set personal records with sectional qualifying times and distances included Sam Wilcox in the pole vault (9’6”), Elijah Clement in the discus (108’ 7 1/2”), and Dylan Shepard in the 110 hurdles (18.3 seconds).
Other event winners included JP Hoak in the shot put (34’ 5 3/4”, personal record), Jadan Kaplan and Dan Millson in the 4×400 meter relay, and Will Austin and Branden McColm in the 4×800 meter relay.
The following individuals scored points for the team with a personal record, sectional qualifying performance: Branden McColm in the 1600 (5:11.2), Aiden Harig (1:07.7) and Braydon Weismore (1:07.8) in the 400 hurdles, Jaden Kaplan in the 400 sprint (55.2 seconds), and Aiden Harig in the high jump (5’2″).
Those who scored points for the team while setting a personal record were Tom Insel in the 200 (25.6, 3rd place), Kent in the shot put (32’5 1/2″), Miles Weiler in the discus (73’ 2 1’2″), and Connor Frisbie (19.2) and Willem Light-Olsen (21.6) in the 110 hurdles.
There were many other personal records set on the day:
- Henri Mongeau in the 110 hurdles (21.7) and 400 hurdles (1:24.6); Elijah Clement (12.3) and Gabe Snachez (13.2) in the 100 meters;
- Jaden Kaplan (25.7), Will Schirmer (28.0), Sean Larkin (28.9), Russell LaFever (29.9), Trey Thornton (30.9), Aiden Bailey (32.4), and Kaleb Vazquez (32.6) in the 200;
- JD Dolley (5:24.9) and Eddie Comeau (5:30.4) in the 1600 meters;
- Blaze Dannan (14:18.0) in the 3200m;
- Aiden Bailey (30’ 5 1/2”), Kaleb Vazquez (30’ 3 1/2″”), Evan Rice (28’ 7”), Gabe Sanchez (25’ 8”), Jonah Beam (24’ 5”), and Fletcher Litera (21’ 0”) in the shot put;
- Blaze Dannan (64’ 0.5”), Aiden Harig (62’ 1”), Joey Diana (57’ 7.5”), and Kaleb Vazquez (52’ 4”) in the discus;
- Matthew Tugaw (14’ 5”), Russell LaFever (13’ 0”), Trey Thornton (12’ 9”), and Connor Zampetti (4’ 4”) in the long jump.
Three days later, Cazenovia finished third out of 20 teams in the Onondaga Central Invitational, behind only Class A schools Oswego and East Syracuse Minoa.
Again Kent and Hughes led the way. Kent won the 400 sprint in 51.45 seconds, took second place in the 200 in 22.84, and anchored the winning 4×400 meter relay with a blistering 50-second split.
Hughes won the 800 in a personal record time of 2:04.76 and was also on the winning 4×400 meter relay. Kaplan and Millson joined Kent and Hughes in the 4×400, beating 13 schools with an impressive time of 3:37.74, third best in Section III this season.
Another double scorer for the Lakers was McColm, taking fourth place in the 1,600 in 5:07.75 and sixth place in the 3,200 meters in 11:02.44, both personal records.
Austin was right behind McColm in the 1,600, taking fifth place with a personal record 5:11.38.
Others who had great performances and set personal records include Andrew Lee (12.46) in the 100, Harig (1:06.52) in the 400 meter hurdles, Frisbee (19’ 1/2″) in the long jump, and Millson (18’ 9 1/2″) in the long jump.
