ONONDAGA COUNTY – At least in terms of local bragging rights, the Cicero-North Syracuse Blue girls golf team has it over Liverpool in the early portion of the 2022 season.
Going head-to-head last Monday at Northern Pines, the Northstars were able to put together a 202-221 victory over the Warriors by shooting the four lowest individual rounds of the match.
Jessica Riccardi’s nine-hole 42 in the windy conditions led the way. Isabella Borte finished with a 41 as Andrea Wheaton put up a 51 and Ava Mazzoli finished with a 52.
They all finished ahead of Liverpool’s low round of 53 from Cloe Dailey. Jewelyana Daniels earned a 54, with Maddie Turck posting a 59 behind the 55 from the Warriors’ Ella Forfero.
Two days later, C-NS Blue braved freezing temperatures to win again, this time against Fayetteville-Manlius White in a 200-215 decision.
Riccardi’s 45 was complemented by a 48 from Borte. Wheaton helped out with a 52, just behind the Hornets’ low round of 51 from Madison Brown, while Gabriella DiOrio finished with a 56.
But the win streak got halted on Thursday in a clash with Fayetteville-Manilus Green, where the Northstars played well, yet still lost 190-204 to the Hornets.
At Green Lakes, Borte’s 45 was the low individual round. But four F-M Green golfers broke 50, led by Georgia Perry’s 46, while Riccardi posted a 51. Mazzoli and Wheaton each shot 54.
C-NS’s Green team went up against F-M White a day earlier and lost, 220-256, even though Lindsey Kubala’s 52 was the low individual round, one better than Brown. Mya Ashkar had a 65, ahead of Jillian Bambino’s 69 and Hailey Swenton’s 70.
Taking on unbeaten Baldwinsville on Thursday at Timber Banks, C-NS Green lost 224-259, with Kubala shooting a 60 but three Bees faring better, led by Alexandra Cavino’s 51.
Liverpool got its turn against B’ville on Friday at Hickory Hills, and nearly brought the Bees’ win streak to a halt before taking a 186-190 defeat.
Emma Fenwick shot 45 for the Warriors as Turck got a 47 and Maddie Teska shot 48. Foriero put up a 50 as B’ville needed a top-two sweep from Cavino (41) and Gloria Metallo (43) to pull it out.
