ONONDAGA COUNTY – Regardless of the venue this winter, the Liverpool girls bowling team found itself with the upper hand against its neighbors from Cicero-North Syracuse.
Having topped the Northstars 3-0 back on Dec. 13 at Flamingo Bowl, the Northstars did so again in last Wednesday’s rematch at Strike-N-Spare Lanes, led by Ashley Hardy and Makenzi Ormsby.
Shooting twin games of 217 after an opening 206, Hardy finished with a 640 series, with Orsmby close behind as she improved from a 192 to a 203 and 213 in the course of her 608 set.
Mackenzie Gill added a 564 series and Sara Conover a 413 series as, on C-NS’s side, Kathyrn Artz had games of 209 and 192 in her 558 series and Trinity Short added a 490 series. Marissa Leone had a three-game total of 453.
Meanwhile, in the boys match between C-NS and Liverpool, it was the Northstars in control by that same 3-0 margin helped by fast starts from Nick Wentworth and Nehemiah Bachman.
Wentworth’s 258 opening game was part of a 613 series, but Bachman had a better series of 616 after his 246 first game was followed by games of 189 and 181.
Jacob Calabria, who opened with a 198, got a 533 series, two better than Ryan Hill’s 531 set that included a 221 second game as Jonathan Artz had a 511 series.
On the Warriors’ side, Zach Doing closed with games of 207 and 223 during his 591 series, while Tanner Gist had a 223 game in his 503 set and Raphael Rucker contributed a 506 series.
This followed a 3-0 loss to Baldwinsville the day before where Doing’s 510 series was the best any of the Warriors could manage. Tom Krokis had a 473 series and Paul Kroskis had a three-game total of 458.
Liverpool’s girls also lost 3-0 to B’ville, Gill notching a 547 series and Ormsby a 523 series, each of them trailing the 652 series from B’ville’s Jenna Spiech and a 645 set from Amelia Ponto that included a third-game 265.
Then Liverpool hosted Fayetteville-Manlius on Thursday and got more strong games on the girls side to blank the Hornets 3-0.
Hardy shot 237, 220 and 244 to finish with a 701 series, with Gill not far behind as she tore to a third-game 265 with 10 strikes as part of a 668 series that included games of 182 and 195. Ormsby was steady throughout a 594 series.
The boys Warriors lost, 3-0, to F-M despite Rucker’s steady 639 series with no game higher than 214 and Doing’s 254 third game that closed out a 628 series. On the Hornets’ side, Michael Nanno had a 279 second game and 265 third game on his way to a 753 set.
C-NS, against West Genesee at Solvay Recreation Alley, prevailed 2-1 that same day, even with modest scores as Jonathan Artz had a 181 game and Terry Miller shot a 165.
