CENTRAL NEW YORK – Both the Jordan-Elbridge and Marcellus wrestling teams will enter the post-season fray for the first time this Saturday when they compete in the Onondaga High School League tournament.
Continuing its full tournament slate, the Eagles went to Canandaigua last Saturday for the Bradshaw Tournament, where it tied Faiport for seventh place in a 23-team field, each getting 105 points.
Only Jack Smith, at 138 pounds, got to the finals for J-E, pinning Zach Hibbard (Chenango Forks) in the first period of the semifinal before Ithaca’s George Oroudjov pinned him in the third period of the title bout.
Jack Lamson secured fifth place at 132 pounds with a 37-second pin over Horseheads’ Lucas Mosher, while Dylan Nolan (110 pounds) blanked Palmyra-Macedon’s Zach Rooks 4-0 to also finish fifth as Jon Everhart, at 160 pounds, landed in sixth place.
That same day, in the Dan Wickham Classic at Unatego, Marcellus finished sixth out of 15 teams, with three wrestlers getting to finals and two of them prevailing.
At 110, Donovan Fraher won, edging Liam English (Berne-Knox) 6-5 in the title bout, with Colin Scherer (126 pounds) holding off Adirondack’s Jacob Strain by that exact same score.
Zach Grolling lost the 172-pound final 3-0 to Lackawanna Trail (Pa.) wrestler Tyler Rozanski. Alex Lostracco (132 pounds) and Ryder Donahue (172) each took sixth place.
West Genesee finished 10th in a 14-team field in the Phoenix Mid-Winter Classic, where Austin Fesinger got to the 102-pound final before a 6-3 defeat to Chenango Valley’s Anthony Valls.
Maxx Fesinger’s 4-0 win over Goshen’s Jackson Brody meant third place at 138 pounds as Colin McAvan was fourth at 160 pounds.
Before all this, WG lost last Wednesday to Liverpool 48-18, with Omar Almlati (215 pounds) and Austin Fesinger getting pins as Logan Willis, at 118, edged Rocco DeGilormo 4-2 McAvan got a 3-1 decision over Owen Atchie. Maxx Fesinger lost 1-0 to Jonah Geller and Jack Wade fell 3-0 to Mohammed Yousuf.
J-E won last Wednesday over Southern Hills 56-12, with pins from Everhart, Angelo Turo (172), Isaac Svitavsky (160) and Chris Martinez (152). Four other pins went to Nolan, Lamson, Nolan Jackson and Henry Smith, with Jacob Ellsworth routing Sye Stanton 17-6 and Jack Smith handling Colby LaBarge 13-3.
Marcellus won 51-16 over Chittenango that same night, highlighted by four straight pins from Scherer, Lostracco, Gavin Ciota (126) and Chris Doshna (145), this following first-period falls from Fraher and Jonas Kaczor,. Ciota had the quickest pin, finshing off Kamryn Coonrod in 40 seconds.
