CENTRAL NEW YORK – In the midst of an impressive mid-season run, the East Syracuse Minoa boys soccer team got to double digits on the scoreboard in last Thursday’s 10-0 romp over the Auburn Maroons.
Jackson Tedesco’s three-goal hat trick paced the Spartans, with Zach Shufelt and Ibrahim Husakovic each scoring twice. Alex Conzone had one goal and one assist as Henry Callahan netted the other goal. Caleb Tedesco got two assists as single assists went to Eric Markert, Joel Alvarez, Garrett O’Donnell and Dominic Caruana.
And while that was a lopsided win, what ESM did last Saturday against state Class AA no. 9-ranked Baldwinsville was even better, with the Spartans blanking the Bees 3-0.
Considering that B’ville had not lost a game this season until Fayetteville-Manlius topped them 2-0 earlier in the week, it was quite a performance as Durantini netted two goals and Nico Paduano added a goal and assist. Anel Sujic also got an assist, with goalie Hamdija Causevic stopping all six shots he faced.
Jamesville-DeWitt, who lost 2-1 to ESM on Sept. 25, rebounded last Monday by blanking Oswego 5-0, led by Jake Mone, who burned the Buccaneers for a three-goal hat trick and added an assist. Aiden Scott also scored, with Mone joined in the assist column by Ryan Brazell, Mario Streiff and Max MacCaull.
Then, in Thursday’s game at Cazenovia, a pair of early goals, one by MacCaull, gave the Red Rams a 2-0 edge, but the Lakers roared back, tied it on tallies by J.D. Dolly and Dan Millison, and then won it 3-2 when Dolly scored again late in the first overtime period.
On Saturday, as ESM was handling Baldwinsville, J-D was getting a shutout of its own, blanking Rome Free Academy 2-0. Mone assisted on both scoring plays as Brazell and Kyan Barbuto picked up the goals.
Bishop Grimes had not won a game entering this week, but then got a 1-1 draw with Manlius-Pebble Hill and, two days later, finally earned a victory when it blanked Bishop Ludden 2-0.
Getting even for a 3-1 defeat to the Gaelic Knights the week before, the Cobras saw Joel Fasama net one goal and assist on the other by Ricardo Morales, while Greg Docos stopped all six shots he faced.
Then Grimes beat Faith Heritage 2-1 for back-to-back wins, seeing Nick Walsh net one goal and assist on Sylvester Seton’s tally as each of the eight saves Docos made proved important.
