CENTRAL NEW YORK – Cassidy Gilmore’s run to third place highlighted the Cazenovia boys cross country team’s appearance in last Saturday’s Tully Invitational.
In a field of more than 100 runners, Gilmore beat all but two of them, his time of 17 minutes, 55.2 seconds only bettered by the 16:32.2 from South Lewis’ Colin Stafford and the 16:52.1 from Cortland’s Jared Valentin.
As a whole, the Lakers claimed fifth place in a 14-team field with 142 points. Cicero-North Syracuse (53 points) edged Tully (57 points) for the team title.
Will Austin made his way to 25th place in 20:01.7, with Quinn Smith getting 31st place in 20:14.6. Carter Ruddy claimed 42nd place in 20:44.5 and Willem Light-Olson, in 22:49.9, got to 59th place.
Back on Wednesday, as Cazenovia raced against Jordan-Elbridge, Chittenango faced Homer, with the girls Bears moving to 3-0 with a dominant 19-50 win over the Trojans.
Evelyn Wynkoop posted a time of 24:35, just behind the 24:34 from Homer’s Alyssa Swayze, but Chittenango dominated from there, led by Mariah Stewart, who was third in 25:06.
Emily Judd finished in 25:46, with Bailee Burton posting 25:50. Laura Powers, in 26:49, finished just ahead of Ani McCarthy and Mia McReynolds, who both posted 26:50.
The boys meet had Chittenango handle Homer 17-50, this after the girls appeared Sept. 25 in the Chittenango Invitational and finished sixth out of 20 teams in the Small School division.
Wynkoop finished 28th among team runners at B’ville (38th overall) in 22:45flat, just ahead of Allyson Cole’s 23:08.7. McCarthy posted 23:13.7 and Stewart finished in 23:31.7 as Powers got a clocking of 24:01.7.
In last Saturday’s McQuaid Invitational, the Chittenango boys finished 15th in the boys Varsity AA race led by Caleb LeBlanc, who made his way to eighth place in 16:45.9. Sam Glazier was 61st in 18:31.1 and Manu Tipa (18:43.5) was 73rd.
