DEWITT – Each of the area’s two high school gymanstics teams would square off Thursday night, with Rylee Fishkin and Katie DeStefano leading the way.
Fishkin and DeStefano accounted for half the points for Jamesville-DeWitt/Fayetteville-Manlius as it defeated East Syracuse Minoa/Liverpool by a score of 140.5-130.4.
On her way to the all-around title with a 35.9 total, Fishkin scored a 9.5 on uneven bars and a 9.4 on floor exercise to win both events, adding a 9.3 on balance beam to tie ESM/Liverpool’s Katie DiMillo for first place.
As for DeStefano, she scored 8.0 on the vault, behind three teammates. Rachel McKean and ESM/Liverpool’s Jenny Sun tied for the top spot in that event with 8.3, while Antoinette Sakellariou and Charlotte Ford both scored 8.1.
Catherine Rizzo scored 9.1 on the floor and had a 9.0 beam routine ahead of McKean’s 8.8 and Sakellariou’s 8.6, while McKean went on to post 9.2 on the floor, which Anglelina Merulla matched for the Spartans.
Only Sakellariou, with an 8.4, got close to Fishkin’s score on uneven bars. ESM/Liverpool faces Rome Free Academy next Tuesday and then takes on Utica Proctor and Central Square next weekend after J-D/F-M faces the Redhawks earlier in the week.
