When it’s all put together, what the Skaneateles boys ice hockey team has accomplished, beyond Section III and state Division II titles, might be even more imposing.
The Lakers have now gone more than 50 games without suffering a defeat, with the mark now sitting at 51 after more lospided victories in the last full week of February.
As for the undefeated Skanetaeles boys ice hockey team, it went to 7-0 on Feb. 21 with a 10-0 shutout of Ontario Bay, the Lakers’ fifth shutout in a row.
Garrett Krieger scored four times, with Jack Buff earning a career-best four assists and Henry Major getting three assists.
Single goals went to Luke Renaud, Jeff McCrone, Mike Blowers, Ben Clymer, Anthony Casper and Jacob French. Drew Henderson, Drew Jensen and Curran McGowan each got two assists. Colin Morrissey and Connor Corbett also had assists.
Now Skaneateles took on Cortland-Homer, whom it beat in a tough 4-2 battle in the Feb. 10 season opener. Less than two weeks later, it was yet another Lakers shutout as it bashed the Golden Eagles 8-0.
Extending its unbeaten streak to 49 games overall, Skaneateles led 3-0 after one period, with Renaud’s goal the launching point, and the Lakers scored twice on the power play in the second period while doubling the margin to 6-0.
With three goals overall, Renaud got his third hat trick of the season. Charlie Major had two goals and three assists as Krieger also converted twice. Henderson and Henry Major had three assists apiece.
Finally, after eight straight games on home ice, Skanetaeles went on the road Thursday, to Oswego, where the unbeaten mark reached the landmark number of 50 in a 7-1 romp over the Buccaneers.
These teams had met Feb. 11 and it had gone 7-2 in the Lakers’ favor, and that was the last time anyone had recorded a goal against Skaneateles until this night.
It came in the third period, with Oswego’s Collin Cianfarano able to put one past Adam Casper with assists to Brayden Miller and Marcus Baker, but by then Skaneateles was comfortably in front.
Only up 1-0 through one period, the Lakers converted three times in each of the next two periods with Krieger as the focal point thanks to his four assists and Charlie Major adding three assists.
Six different players scored, with only Renaud converting twice. Krieger, Henderson, Jensen, Jack Torrey and Henry Major getting the other goals. Morrissey joined Henderson and Jensen in the assist column.
Back home on Friday, Skaneateles took on a Fayetteville-Manlius side that not only had won the previous three nights, but had just stunned previously unbeaten West Genesee 4-3 at Cicero Twin Rinks.
The Lakers did not meet a similar fate as the Wildcats, toying with the Hornets in an 8-0 romp where Krieger’s three-goal hat trick was augmented by a pair of assists and Charlie Major dished out a season-best five assists.
Renaud found the net twice, with Morrissey, Henry Major and Jack Weeks also scoring. Henderson picked up a pair of assists as single assists went to Major, Renaud, French and Jensen.
Seven more games follow in the first two weeks of March for the 10-0 Lakers, culminating next week with a battle against Route 20 rival Auburn and back-to-back clashes with West Genesee.
