Jamesville-DeWitt/CBA was originally set as one of five wrestling teams going to Indian River last Saturday to take part in the Division I portion of the Section III Dual Meet.
As the no. 4 seed, the Rams was to face host Indian River in the first round, and if it won there, it would have to try and take down top seed Fulton in the semifinals.
But the threat of a winter storm caused J-D/CBA, and many other teams, to not participate in the Dual Meet. In the end, only three Division I sides went to Indian River, and five Division II teams took part at Central Valley Academy.
Before all this, CBA/J-D went head-to-head with Fulton last Wednesday night and it was not close, the Rams overwhelmed in a 62-13 defeat to the Red Raiders.
Of the 15 bouts, J-D/CBA only won three of them, and one came when William Laun, at 285 pounds, got the points due to a disqualification of Fulton’s Zach Hobby.
By the time they wrestled at 132 pounds, Fulton had an insurmountable 50-6 lead, but at least Ethan Wells was able to keep it close in a 4-2 defeat to Kaleb Carreon.
Tyler Kellison, wrestling at 138 pounds, put away Cole French 9-1 to improve to 24-4 this winter. In a 145-pound classic, Alikhan Abdullayev went to overtime and outlasted Sam May15-14. Shoh Alibekov (160 pounds) lost, 6-2, to Jeshua Lopez.
As this went on, East Syracuse Minoa had a closer match against Central Square, yet still fell 45-31 to the Redhawks.
Through five bouts, the Sparatns led 21-6, having seen Matt Lewis (182 pounds) pin Kalob Whitt in the third period before an epic 195-pound battle where Iziha Hayden outlasted Alex VanAntwerp 12-11.
But after Conor Todd (220 pounds) took a forfeit and Ameer Ladd, at 285, pinned Mason Hoyt in the second period, Central Square won six of the remaining eight bouts on the card, all by pins.
Only Donovan Marriott (113 pounds) and Aslan Abdulla (152 pounds) broke up this string, Marriott by pinning Gabe Rupracht in just 26 seconds and Abdulla by nearly getting a technical fall in a 16-2 romp over Terry Belden.
Fayetteville-Manlius went up against West Genesee last Wednesday night, taking just three bouts from the Wildcats in a 60-13 defeat.
Ben Christopher, at 152, pinned Jared Rachlin early in the second period. Then WG won seven consecutive bouts before Kyle Sykes, at 106 pounds, beat Matt Murdock 12-4, with Braden Florczyk (120 pounds) blanking Gavin O’Neil 6-0.
Alex Dauksza was close at 145, dropping a 5-4 decision to Cole Saxon, while Charlie Josephson (220) lost 4-0 to Cole Wade and Justin Bedell (145) had a 7-2 defeat to Colin McAvan.
