Where the Baldwinsville ice hockey team stood in the Division I pecking order may have changed, even though at the end of last week’s action it stood even with Syracuse, each side having 14 points.
The Bees had only lost once in eight league games going into last Friday’s match against Cicero-North Syracuse at the Twin Rinks, and here it could not recover from a rough start in a 4-1 defeat to the Northstars.
Eager to establish itself as a league and sectional contender, C-NS, only with a 5-4-1 overall record, jumped all over B’ville with three unanswered goals in the first period, Matt Cramer leading the way as he scored twice and got an assist.
The Bees did cut the margin to 3-1 in the second period on a goal by Tyler Derito, assisted by Ryan Muscatello, but for the rest of the night it got shut down by an effective Northstars defense.
Adding a late goal, C-NS saw Holden Sarosy and Nick Sciore join Cramer in the scoring column as Jake Den Bleyker got two assists. Northstars goalie Jordan Miller frustrated B’ville by stopping 20 of the 21 shots he faced as Tommy Blais finished with 25 saves.
Another key game takes place Tuesday at Kennedy Arena as B’ville (8-5 overall) battles Rome Free Academy (9-3), followed by a weekend trip to the Rochester area where the Bees have games against McQuaid Friday and Fairport on Saturday afternoon.
