One of the more traditional stops in area high school cross country is the Baldwinsville Invitational, whose 67th edition took place last Saturday at Durgee Junior High School with more than 50 schools participating.
That included the girls from Christian Brothers Academy, who won a similar meet at New Hartford the week before and, here, claimed the Small School division title over more than 30 challengers.
With 146 points, CBA, even without its top runner (Olivia Morganti) on hand, held off Chittenango (155 points) for the top spot as, individually, Bri Pucci led the way with a 14th-place finish in the team standings in 19 minutes, 37.9 seconds.
Lea Kyle was close behind, getting 17th place in 19:44.6, with Mia Kirch getting 23rd place in 20:06.7. CBA overtook Chittenango when Savannah Conway finished 40th on the team side in 21:01.1 and Isabelle Cannizzo was 52nd in 21:25.3, with Annie Toole (21:49.3) and Julia Medicis (22:40.4) behind them.
Jamesville-DeWitt was seventh in the girls Large School division, with Sophia Vinciguerra pacing the Red Rams as she ran to 10th place in 18:47.2. Amelia Gilbert was 17th in 19:18.7 as Abby Palin got 22nd place in 19:33.4 ahead of Amanda Semmel (20:58.0) and Stella Heflin (21:07.0).
Further back, East Syracuse Minoa was 12th, the Spartans led by Emma Biel, who was 42nd in the team standings in 20:31.4. Mary Roach was 48th in 21:00.1 as Elena Vespi, in 21:40.7, was just ahead of Taylor Hoffman (22:02.0), Marissa Drogo (22:04.5) and Ally O’Brien (22:04.9).
Taking sixth place in the boys Large School division, J-D had Kaleel Boykins getting to 13th place in 15:49.4 and Nick Mannion 19th in 16:04.5. Ahviere Reese was 37th in 16:36.8, with Michael Sizing (16:49.4), Alan Gao (16:52.4), Fidel Martinez (16:54.1) and Nate Rindfuss (16:58.8) close together.
ESM’s Nick Berg, in a tough field, gained seventh place in 15:31.6, helping the Spartans to a 13th-place team finish. Michael Sanders was next as he finished in 17:22.5, beating Casey Engineri (17:41.7), Spencer Carnival (18:00.6) and Josh Cain (18:42.6).
Bishop Grimes also ran in the girls Small School division, with Alicia Kelley pacing the Cobras thanks to her time of 23:09.2, while in the boys division the Cobras’ Robbie Finger led his side by finishing in 18:50.4.
