For the Skaneateles girls golf team, it was time to find out just where it stood relative to other Onondaga High School League sides as it would play most of its regular-season matches over a two-week span.
At 1-1 going into last Monday’s contest at Woodcrest, the Lakers rose up together and ripped past the Chittenango Bears 198-250 with the five lowest individual rounds.
Jillian Barker, Addison Gremli and Jenna Fields each shot 48 for nine holes, while Karah Blair had a 54 and Mackenzie Ward contributed a 57. Each of them topped Chittenango’s low rounds of 59 from Shannon Koegel and Haley Walters.
But Skaneateles lost that same day to Marcellus 198-227. Julia Cirincione led the Lakers with a 55, just ahead of Gremli (56) and Blair (57), with Tess Peterson adding a 59, but the Mustangs had the four best rounds of the match, including a 46 from Mary Colella.
Back home at Skaneateles Country Club a day later, the Lakers faced Christian Brothers Academy and Chittenango in a three-team match and beat them both, posting 195 to the Brothers’ 221 and the Bears’ 229.
Individually, Fields tied CBA’s Meghan McKeen as they both posted 47. Right behind them, though, were three more Lakers as Barker managed a 48, with Blair shooting a 49 and Gremli contributing a 51.
After facing Marcellus and Westhill early this week, Skaneateles goes to Woodcrest Golf Club Wednesday for the OHSL Tournament.
