When the Section III bowling championships take place this Sunday at Strike-N-Spare Lanes, each of the Cicero-North Syracuse team,s will work with the advantage of competing at its home facility.
It helps, too, that both groups of Northstars are bowling well,
Against West Genesee last Tuesday at Solvay Recreation Alley, C-NS swept the Wildcats in a pair of 3-0 decisions, with Tyler Dottolo emerging for the boys Northstars as he shot a 253 game during a 635 series.
Otherwise, the scores were fairly even as Tim Cloonan got a 516 series, just ahead of J.J. O’Connell (514 series), Zach Emm (508 series) and Nick Bough (504 series). WG’s Conor Matthewson led his side with a three-game total of 537.
For the C-NS girls, it was Carly Lescenski again at the forefront as she shot a 547 series, with a high game of 189. Elianna Pitts added a 474 series (177 high game) as Emily Shields (470 series) and Katie Drogo (430 series) had the Wildcats’ top efforts.
Liverpool will expect to contend in both sectional tournaments, too, especially after a strong closing stretch to the regular season that commenced last Tuesday with twin 3-0 sweeps of Fayetteville-Manlius at Green Lakes.
For the girls Warriors, it was Ashley Hardy putting up a steady 617 series with a high game of 213. Dailyn McCarthy’s 202 game was part of a 561 set as Danielle Maher had a 501 series (170 high game) and Riley Warren added a three-game total of 483. Julianna Buonfiglio had F-M’s best series of 495.
A big home match against Baldwinsville at Flamingo Bowl would take place Thursday afternoon. The girls Warriors had no problem earning a 3-0 victory, but the boys took a 2-1 defeat to the Bees, just as it had when they met Jan. 9 at B’ville Sports Bowl.
C-NS would have it own match against F-M on Friday, where the girls Northstars prevailed 2-1 over the Hornets, led again by Lescenski, whose 215 game was part of a 570 series. Pitts shot a 177 game in her 499 set as Shelby Minor had a 527 for F-M.
