Even a snowed-out game at Alexandria Bay could not slow down the Skaneateles girls ice hockey team for too long, as a subsequent weekend road trip would prove.
The Lakers won its 26th consecutive game last Friday night, improving to 7-0 on the season as it went to Saranac Lake and prevailed by a 4-1 margin.
Unlike many of its other games this season, the Lakers (whose game at Alexandria Bay last Tuesday was snowed out) didn’t get an early lead. Instead, it remained 0-0 until the second period, when Skaneateles scored three times to counteract Saranac Lake’s lone tally.
Ioanna Christou had a part in each of the Lakers’ scoring plays, netting a goal and three assists. Twice, Christou assisted on Megan Teachout’s goals as Genevieve Morrow earned the other goal. Rebecca Cain had one assists and Jessica Smith finished with 14 saves.
This was the first part of a two-game weekend road swing that concluded Saturday at Malone, where the Lakers had a far easier time of it in a 9-1 romp that included six goals in the first period, the most yet by Skaneateles in any single period this season.
Best of all, the production got spread around as Cain, Heather Tanzella and Sophia Burns each scored twice, Cain adding a pair of assists. Teachout notched three assists as she, along with Christou and Olivia Cox, had single goals. Campbell Torrey contributed an assist.
On Tuesday night, Skaneateles would attempt to stretch the win streak to 28 at Ithaca, and then break for two weeks before resuming action Jan. 3 at Oswego.
