On Saturday, Oct. 14, The Cazenovia varsity and junior varsity teams hosted a free “Field Hockey Fun Day” for second through sixth grade girls in Cazenovia. Sixty–five young girls came out to learn about a sport that many of them had never even seen before.
The 24 varsity and junior varsity players coached the players and instructed at stations to teach the different basic skills in a fun and age appropriate way. After having some basic instruction and practice, the girls put the skills together in modified game play. At the end of the session, the girls shared cider and treats with the athletes giving them all a chance to get to know each other a little more.
The Cazenovia varsity team looks to continue their season and is scheduled to play the winner of Holland Patent and Canastota at Fayetteville-Manlius High School at 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, in the sectional semi-finals.
