Each of the Chittenango cross country teams roared through last Wednesday’s OHSL Liberty division meet against Mexico, with the boys prevailing 18-44 over the Tigers and the girls Bears taking a 15-50 sweep.
It was close in the front pack of the boys race, but Chittenango’s Karl Farber pulled through with the victory in 18 minutes, 39 seconds as teammate Matt Morak, in 18:44, edged Mexico’s Kyle Higby (18:45) for the runner-up spot.
To get away, the state Class B no. 15-ranked Bears had Lucas Spiridilozzi finish fourth in 19:08, with Ersilio Cerminero fifth in 19:25 and Dave Gratien (19:41) beat out Caleb Seale (19:51) for sixth place. Devin Cameron also ran well, getting ninth place in 20:04.
In the girls race, Chittenango swept the top eight spots, led by McKenzie Dombroski, who pulled way from the pack and finished in 23 minutes, 57 seconds.
McKayla Capeling, in 26:18, beat out Devin Gordon and Kiara Waite (26:19) for the runner-up spot. Eryn Thompson finished fifth in 26:47, with Brooke Price getting sixth place in 27:08. Jada Sowich (27:18) and MaddyHeller (27:28) followed as Kayla Mendez (29:01) was just behind Mexico’s Shannon Michaelis (29:00).
Each of Chittenango’s teams ran Saturday in the McQuaid Invitational in Rochester, where in the boys Varsity AA-2 unseeded race the Bears finished sixth out of 29 sides.
Cerminaro was 20th overall (19th among team runners) in a time of 16:29.5, with Farber 26th in 16:42.2 and Morak getting 29th place in 16:48.8. Gratien (17:28.3) was half a second ahead of Lucas Spirdilozzi (17:28.8) as Caleb Seale posted 17:48.8 and Devin Cameron finished in 18:27.6.
