Each of the Fayetteville-Manlius track and field teams would make a big impact during last Friday’s Baldwinsville John Arcaro Classic, and the girls Hornets would finish on top, earning 119 points to pull away from the host Bees (89 points) and 10 other teams in the field.
In the 4×800 relay, F-M’s girls had Christy Berge’, Sophie Ryan, Palmer Madsen and Phoebe White finish in nine minutes, 6.35 seconds, more than a minute ahead of B’ville (10:14.02) and the field. Berge’ and Madsen returned in the 4×400 to help Susan Bansbach and Cady Barns as F-M, in 4:05.74, was more than eight seconds clear of runner-up Tully in 4:13.85.
Ryan went from there to winning the 1,500-meter run in 4:35.28, pulling away from Claire Walters, who was second in 4;53.55. Alex Villalba rolled to victory in the 3,000-meter run in 10:51 flat with West Genesee’s Taylor Rech second in 11:14.74.
The Hornets also went 1-2 in the 400-meter hurdles, where Gwenn Shepardson won in 1:09.16 and Sydney O’Dell finished second in 1:12.14. Shepardson added a third-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles in 15.92 seconds. Madsen was second (2:20.44) to Tully’s Jessica Donald (2:16.21) in the 800-meter run as Rebecca Walters was third in 2:22.90.
Barns nearly won the triple jump, going 35 feet 9 inches to finish a quarter of an inch behind Cicero-North Syracuse’s Sierra Davis (35’9 ¼”) at the top. Barns also got fourth place in the 100-meter dash in 13.21 seconds, also having a sixth-place long jump of 16 feet. Bansbach was fourth (1:02.29) and Berge’ fifth (1:02.38) in the 400-meter dash.
Claire Walters went 7:15.61 to finish second in the 2,000-meter steeplechase behind Tully’s Brooke Rauber (7:03.39), with Rebecca Walters third in 7:29.12 and Haleigh Pascual seventh.
Meanwhile, the F-M boys track team was third in the Arcaro meet with 67 points, trailing only B’ville (109.5) and Central Square (88), though Garrett Brennan won the mile, edging Indian River’s Tyler Godin, 4:26.13 to 4:26.62, as Ben Otis got fourth place in 4:36.78.
F-M also swept the top spots in the 3,200-meter run, where Joe Walters prevailed in 9:22.25 and Patrick Perry was second in 9:27.14. Romello Mitchell made it to second place in the high jump, clearing 5’10” as Central Square’s Erich Metz won with 6’2”. In the triple jump, Mitchell was sixth, going 38’10 ½”.
Eli Capri was second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:28.34 before Perry, Garrett Brennan, Jack Boltman and Jack Duncanson finished second in the 4×800 relay, its time of 8:03.25 just behind B’ville’s winning 8:02 flat. Duncanson got fourth place in the 800 in 2:03.08.
Stefan Mina finished fourth in the 400 hurdles in 1:02.39, with Armando Adrian sixth in the 200-meter dash in 23.79 seconds as helped Mina, Boltman and Casey Coleman finish fifth (3:41.37) in the 4×400. John Nethercott was ninth in the 400 sprint, Deion Travis was ninth in the discus (111’3”) and Adrian was 10th in the 100 sprint.
Over at the Oneida Invitational, the Jamesville-DeWitt girls track team piled up 76 points to finish second behind Rome Free Academy, who won with 129 points.
Alexandria Payne started her effort by winning the 100 hurdles in 15.73 seconds as no one else broke the 17-second mark. In the 100 sprint, Payne was second in 12.98 seconds behind RFA’s Tekitha Posey-Barry(12.87).
But then Payne won the 200 in 26.32 seconds over the Black Knights’ Mattison Hunt (27.31) by nearly a full second. And in the high jump, Payne, by clearing 5 feet, got second place to Whitesboro’s Marissa Burke (5’3”) as J-D’s Laetticia Bazile was third, topping 4’10”.
Hannah Butler won for the Red Rams, too, as she ran the 3,000 in 10:05.30, more than 25 seconds ahead of RFA’s Gianna Capoccia (10:30.70) as Sophia Vinciguerra finished seventh. Grace Bridge got fourth place in the 800 in 2:30.32 as the Rams finished fourth in the 4×100 in 53.91 seconds and fifth in the 4×800 in 10:36.55.
Gabrielle Tanksley, clearing 9’6”, was second in the pole vault, though she cleared the same heights as RFA’s Sydney Lewis. Lauren Nandal was fourth in the shot put, tossing it 30’7 ¾” as Mariah Williams was fifth (29’5 ¼”). Sarah Hildreth was ninth and Denise Yaeger 10th in the long jump.
The J-D boys team had 35 points to finish sixth among 22 sides at Oneida, its lone win coming in the 4×400 relay, where David Fikhman, Mike Potamianos, Joey Armenta and Fidel Martinez went 3:27.92 to pull away from runner-up Whitesboro (3:31.31) and the field.
On his own, Fikhman went 22.87 seconds to get third place in the 200 as Alex Carbacio finished third in the 110 hurdles in 16.42 seconds, with Markos Petkpoulos sixth in 17.88 seconds. Carbacio added a sixth-place high jump clearance of 5’6”.
Armenta got sixth place in the 100 sprint in 11.66 second while Sam Glisson was sixth in the 800 in 2:06.42. Sabri Hafizuddin was sixth in the 400 hurdles in 1:02.63 and Nick Mannion was sixth in the mile in 4:50.73. J-D was fifth (9:01.85) in the 4×800 and also fifth (46.01 seconds) in the 4×100.
Takuya LaClair was fifth in the pentathlon, earning 2,157 points as Trey Greene was sixth (19’4”) and Murad Amurlayev seventh (19 feet) in the long jump. Tyler Gabriel took eighth place in the 400 sprint. Luke Hobika was eighth and Joe DiDomenico 10th in the 3,200. Henry Middleton was ninth in the discus, with Chris Blust ninth and Brendan Sharon 10th in the pole vault.
