Not until the last full week of April did the Baldwinsville girls golf team play its first match of the spring season – but when it did, it didn’t waste time entering the win column.
The Bees claimed a close 242-245 decision over West Genesee last Monday afternoon at Timber Banks. It happened with Cara Vredeneburg shooting a 55 for nine holes to lead B”ville, even though it was five shots behind the Wildcat’s top individual, Mikaela Riley.
Then B’ville went on the road Wednesday to face defending CNY Counties League and Section III champion Fayetteville-Manlius, who proceeded to set a back-nine team record on the Green Lakes layout.
The Hornets shot 170, breaking the mark of 172 Auburn set in 2014, while B’ville again posted 242 as Emma Brushingham shot a 58, two shots ahead of Margaret Dec and Cara Vredenburg, with Clair Vredenburg adding a 64. Six Hornets shot 51 or better, with Maggie Bonomo (41) and Madison Kingsley (42) leading the charge.
Another road match followed on Friday, with B’ville taking a 193-217 defeat to Liverpool. Brushingham posted a 53 at Liverpool Country Club, with Dec earning a 55. They both trailed the Warriors’ trio of Sololmia Avotins (37), Natalya Avotins (45) and Aliah Debejian (51).
