One more regular-season task awaited the indoor track and field teams from West Genesee, Jordan-Elbridge and Solvay as they were all paired together in last Saturday’s afternoon session of the Fred Kirschenheiter Memorial Invitational at SRC Arena.
In the girls meet, the Wildcats had 80 points, second to Cicero-North Syracuse (162 points), while Solvay saw Ashley Bosco set a school record in the shot put and the Bearcats enjoyed a season-best fourth-place finish with 48 points as J-E was seventh with 38 points.
Carly Benson paced West Genesee’s girls as she ran 1,000 meters in three minutes, 3.92 seconds, winning by nearly seven seconds. Emily Young followed up by taking the 600-meter run in 1:40.12 as Kendall Dombroske was second, going 1:41.29.
The Wildcats won all three relays, starting with the 4×400, where Megan Delia, Kelsey Fox, Lauren Ferris and Abigail Kuppinger roared to a time of 4:15.16, more than 16 seconds ahead of runner-up Fowler (4:31.25).
Later, Young, Benson, Dombroske and Taylor Rech roared to first place in the 4×800 relay in 9:59.31. Finally, in the 4×200, Fox, Benson, Delia and Ferris got together and, in 1:52.49, beat runner-up C-NS (1:55.73) by m ore than three seconds.
Fox gained second place in the long jump, going 15’5 ½” to only trail the Northstars’ Shayla Webb (15’5 ¾”) by a quarter of an inch.
Solvay could celebrate when Ashley Bosco, with a top shot put toss of 35 feet 9 ½ inches, broke the school record in that event, also winning as Sabrina Gilbert took eighth place. Another victory came in the weight throw when Bosco threw it 32’7 ½” as J-E’s Samantha Hodge (22’8 ½”) finished seventh.
Elsewhere, Solvay’s Katie Harrington was victorious in the 55-meter hurdles, going 9.44 seconds to beat, among others, WG’s Madalyn Benson, who was fourth in 9.96 seconds. Harrington added a fourth-place triple jump of 32’10 ¼”, just ahead of Delia (32’8”) in fifth place as Kathleen Demong was seventh, going 30’11”.
Harrington, Kyra Crossett, Zoe Francemone and Isabella Lambert get fourth place in the 4×400 in 4:36.38., with the Bearcats also eighth in the 4×200 in 2:12.71. Jordyn Willsey go 12:32.36 in the 3,000 for sixth place. Crossett tied for sixth in the high jump, clearing 4’3”.
In the same 4×800 relay where WG prevailed, Jordan-Elbridge finished third, having Maggie DeJohn, Mary Elizabeth Dristle, Theresa Dristle and Kendall Shaw finish in 11:10.53. the Eagles were fourth in the 4×200 (1:57.39) as Madi Hatt, Kyler Langhorn, Emma Burns and Meaghan Jackson took part.
J-E also had Theresa Dristle clear 7’6” in the pole vault and finish third in the 3,000-meter run in 11:34.47, a spot ahead of WG’s Amanda Lowther (11:46.73) in fourth place as Mary Elizabeth Dristle was sixth in 11:48.10. Burns got fourth place in the 1,000 in 3:16.85, while Madi Hatt was sixth in the 600 in 1:51.24.
Moving to the boys portion of the Kirschenheiter meet, WG earned several victories as, with 71 points, it took third place behind C-NS (126 points) and Central Square (102 points). J-E had 23 points and Solvay settled for two points.
Andrew Berry was victorious in the 55 sprint, edging C-NS’s Jeremiah Willis, 6.73 seconds to 6.75, and nearly won the 4×200, too as he joined Griffin Dombroske, Javier Monserrate and Esisas Brumfield to finish in 1:37.74, trailing only theNorthstars’ 1:35.13. Dombroske. clearing 5’6”, was sixth in the high jump and also took seventh place in the long jump.
Cole Nowark threw the shot put 39’11 ¾”, second to Central Square’s Justin Allison (44’7 ¼”). Ryan Dunning, who was eighth in the triple jump, needed 2:50.66 for fourth place in the 1,000 as Ryan Allen (2:58.65) finished eighth. Matt Bartolotta was fourth in the 3,200-meter run in 10:51.66, while Patrick Trivison finished seventh in 11:01.62. Dunning, Tony Gettino, Paul Stannarda and Andy Guinto were fourth in the 4×800 in 9:25.56.
J-E had its best finish in the 600, where Ethan Kinney went 1:29.01 to finish a close second behind C-NS’s David Ware (1:28.81) as WG’s Russ Graziano was fourth in 1:32.29 and Sean Byrnes (1:35.41) was seventh. Kinney also got sixth place in the 300 (39.86 seconds) as the Wildcats’Sean O’Brien was eighth and Jack Richards ninth in the mile. The Eagles’ Nate Jennings got sixth place in the pole vault, clearing 9 feet, while Austin Poticher finished seventh in the weight throw.
