Wildcats capture fourth consecutive title, sweep individual awards
The Cazenovia College Wildcats women’s swimming and diving team captured its fourth consecutive North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Championship and fifth title in program history on Sunday, Feb. 18, after finishing the three-day team event with 706 points.
In addition to capturing the title, Cazenovia College swept the women’s swimming individual awards at this year’s championship.
Senior Nichole Secor was awarded the 2018 NEAC Women’s Swimmer of the Year for her efforts at this year’s championship. Secor set record times in the 200, 500, and 1,650 freestyle events, and was a member of all three record-breaking relay teams. Her achievement marks the third time in a four-year career that Secor has been named the conference’s Swimmer of the Year.
Wildcats freshman Amy Bubb was awarded the 2018 NEAC Women’s Swimming Rookie of the Year honor in her debut for the Wildcats. Bubb earned first place finishes in the 200-yard backstroke and the 200- and 400-yard medley relays.
Head Coach Bill Houser was named the 2018 NEAC Women’s Swimming and Diving Co-Coach of the Year after leading the Wildcats to their fifth title in the eight-year history of the program.
The three-time defending NEAC champions swept all five relay events at the 2018 championship, setting three new school and two NEAC records in the process.
In total, the Wildcats set nine new Cazenovia College (200 Free, 500 Free, 100 and 200 Breaststroke, 200 Fly, 1650 Free, 200 Medley Relay, 400 Medley Relay, 800 Medley Relay), four NEAC All-Time (200 Free, 200 Breaststroke, 400 Medley Relay, 800 Medley Relay), and one championship meet (500 Free) record.
