East Syracuse Minoa Central High School Senior Maddie Armstrong signed a National Letter of Intent last week and will play soccer for the East Stroudsburg University (ESU) Warriors beginning in the fall of 2016. Armstrong will be an exercise science major and will pursue a minor in coaching.
“ESU has a fully accredited exercise science program that is very well known,” said Armstrong. “I want to help athletes obtain peak performance and prevent injury. ESU is a top, nationally-ranked soccer program and I am proud to be an ESU Warrior!”
ESU is currently the NCAA Atlantic Region Champions and PSAC League Champions and is ranked ninth in the nation for all Division II Women’s Soccer programs. Her signing day ceremony was well attended by administrators, coaches, teachers, family and friends.
Armstrong played for the ESM Spartans varsity program her freshman and sophomore years, which included their run at the Section III Class A championship. She is a club player for Odyssey Sport Soccer Club in Sherrill and a three-time Olympic Development Program Region 1 Camp player. As an ESM Spartan, she earned an All-League High School Varsity Award.
Armstrong is a National Strength and Conditioning Association member. She has been a National Honor Society student since 2014 and is a consistent High Honor Roll student. In 2015 she won the National Academy of Future Scientist and Technologist Award of Excellence; in 2014 she earned the U.S. Achievement Academy’s National Physical Education and Health Award; and earned the New York State Public Schools Athlete Award in 2013 and 2014.
Armstrong was recruited by ESU as a defender. ESU is located in the Pocono Mountains region of Pennsylvania.
