Marcellus high school celebrates re-opening
On Sept. 7, the Marcellus Central School District opened its doors to share the newly renovated high school building with the community.
After years of planning and construction, the $18 million project is complete. Students returned to campus Sept. 3, and the Class of 2020 returned to their high school after a two-year hiatus at Driver Middle School.
While little square footage was added to the building, renovations required a near gutting of the interior. One of the major changes, in addition to updated finishes and new furniture, is the rearrangement of classrooms to group “like” classes together. For example, the new STEM wing places science and math classrooms in close proximity to one another.
During the grand opening, Superintendent Michelle Brantner, school staff and members of the board of education gathered in Groeling Auditorium, unveiling of the district’s new mission statement graphic and commitments and special recognition of alumni in attendance for the district’s first alumni reunion weekend.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony at the school entrance and tours followed.
The high school “Parent Team” sponsored a chicken barbecue.
“We hope that our community comes out to see our newly renovated school. We could never have accomplished what we did without their amazing support,” Brantner said. “We are blessed to live in a community committed to doing their very best for students.”
