Baldwinsville — To the editor:
On behalf of the students of the Baldwinsville Central School District, I want to thank the entire community for your support of our capital project proposition on Feb. 9. The passing of this project will allow us to make vital improvements to transportation, facilities and food service to increase safety, efficiency and choices for our students.
It was heartening to see such a strong voter turnout (despite some dodgy weather!) and an overwhelming level of support. What was most amazing as neighbors came and went throughout the day was the cross-section of our community who took time from their busy lives to come vote. I really enjoyed catching up with so many people that I’ve met since bringing my family here as well as making some new friends.
The work approved by our community will happen in phases over the next few years. The most immediate changes will be the new lights and press box at the stadium, which will go up for this fall’s season. Other items such as roofs, lockers and cafeteria improvements will happen more slowly, as they require a state engineering review before we can begin construction. Our plan is to begin construction on the new transportation facility as early as 2018.
We have a strong tradition of supporting our students and each other in Baldwinsville. The positive budget and capital project votes of recent years are proof. But even more so is the day to day support we receive from our community — the many volunteers in our schools, local fundraising for scholarships and amazing turn out for athletic, academic and artistic events. It is that sense of shared commitment to our students and each other that makes this such a special place to live and work. Thank you.
Dr. David Hamilton
