John P. Conway, 91, of Manlius, died peacefully Dec. 5, 2021, at home. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 66 years, Lucille A. Conway.
John was born at home with his twin brother Tom, on June 20, 1930, in New York City. He grew up in Elmhurst, in Queens, N.Y., and graduated from Newtown High School. He was a graduate of Saint John’s University with a degree in accounting and was a veteran of the United States Army. John pursued a long career in business and sales. After moving his family to Syracuse in 1960, he worked many years for Smith-Corona Corporation and Addmaster Corporation.
John was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Fayetteville. He enjoyed traveling with his wife Lucille and reading historical and detective novels. Throughout his life, he enjoyed playing his cherished Gibson guitar, which he bought as a teenager.
His greatest joy was his family. He is survived by four children: Christine Ventre (Anthony) of Manlius, John T. Conway (Jean) of Scotsdale, AZ and Penn Yan, NY, Laura Conway (John) of Cincinnati, OH, and Mark Conway, MD (Liz) of Amherst, NH; six grandchildren, Kathleen (Justin), Alexander, Andrea, Liam, Patrick, and Maggie; and one great-granddaughter, Nevena. He was predeceased by his sister, Peggy, and his brothers, Tom and Patrick.
