Lois Jane Damon, 87, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 22, 2019, with her son, Terry, by her side. Lois was a loving, caring and proud mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Lois recently wrote “For the most part I have enjoyed this journey that God sent me on and I thank God for the gift of my wonderful children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.”
Lois was born on Jan. 10, 1932, to Merylne B. Corbett and Jennie L. Corbett.
She graduated from Hornell High School in 1949 and married L. Stanley Damon on Aug, 26, 1950. They were married for 45 years prior to Stanley passing away on Oct. 23, 1995.
Lois was predeceased by her mother, Jennie Corbett, and father, Merlyne Corbett, her husband, L. Stanley Damon, her youngest son, Steven Damon, and her only sibling, Burton Corbett. Lois is survived by her sons, Larry, Terry (Mary) and Kevin, and her daughter, Renee. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jessica, Reilly, Mathew, Kara, Lisa, Samantha, Alex, Jennie and Andrea, and her great-grandchildren, Terrance, Erich Jr., Bethany, Elaina, Frederick, Madison, Keagan, Liam, Landon and Kamora.
Lois was employed by the Cazenovia Central School District for 27 years and retired in 1995. She started her career in 1968 as a cashier and cook at the New Woodstock Elementary School and in 1975 she was promoted to the manager’s position at the high school, where she worked until retirement in 1995.
During her time at Cazenovia CSD, she worked with the student council each year with the planning of their special events and helped teams and clubs with similar activities and events. She received an honorary award from the FFA as well as the Five Star Award from the Marriot Corporation for her outstanding work as their manager while they held the food service contract with Cazenovia CSD.
Lois was a member of the DeRuyter Chapter 416 of the Order of the Eastern Star where she served as district officer and matron. On Oct. 28, 2002, Lois was presented with an anniversary certificate in commemoration of 45 years as a member.
Over the years Lois was involved as a Cub Scout leader, Sunday school teacher and served on numerous committees at both the New Woodstock Baptist Church and the United Church of DeRuyter.
No calling hours are planned, and a Celebration of Life Memorial will be held at 2 p.m. on May 4 at the United Church of DeRuyter.
In lieu of Flowers, Lois would like donations made to the New Woodstock Free Library or the United Church of DeRuyter.
