Frederick Pickard, Sr., 92, of Baldwinsville, passed away at home on March 19. He was born in West Phoenix to Howard and Daisy Alnutt Pickard. He was a US Navy WW II veteran and served on the U.S.S. Dickerson, which was sunk by a Japanese Kamikaze attack off Okinawa. After his military service, he worked for William C. Pahl Construction. Fred was a Charter member of the Baldwinsville Booster and Baldwinsville Wrestling Clubs. He was a Cub Scout Pack 103 Webelos Leader and a 65-year member with the Local Laborers Union 633.
Fred is predeceased by his parents; his wife, Alice McCarthy Pickard; siblings Howard Pickard, Jr., Robert Pickard Sr., Elizabeth Dean, Edna Eggleston and Helen Carey.
He is survived by his children, Sheila Hayes of Mattydale; Frederick (Robin) Pickard, Jr. of Maplehill, North Carolina; Ann (Ron) Hayes of Gainesboro, Tennessee; Elizabeth “Betsy” Pickard of Baldwinsville; Thomas (Lisa) Pickard of Cambridge, Iowa; John (Lisa) Pickard of Baldwinsville;and, James (Lori) Pickard of Goshen, Indiana; 20 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; six great great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jean (Vern) Bishop of Sterling, New York.
There will be a graveside service at 1 p.m. July 6 at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Baldwinsville. A memorial video may be viewed at the Falardeau Funeral Home site.
