Rowena (Magee) Blazer, of Vernon Center, left this world peacefully at home with her family on June 18, 2016. The future Mrs. Blazer was born on June 4, 1934, in Erieville, N.Y., the older of two.
Her childhood was spent on Tuscarora Lake, swimming, skating and working in the family’s general store. After college, she moved to New York City where she met her sailor, Robert; she being the love of his life. They married and returned upstate to start a family.
Rowena was a beloved partner both in life and being self employed in business with Robert. A resilient nature carried her through several illnesses but was finally beaten. She will always be remembered for her sharp wit, candor and strong spirit.
Rowena was predeceased by her parents, Donald, to whom she was always Daddy’s girl, and Ruth (Hart) Magee. She is survived by her husband, Robert, daughters, her best friend Robin Blazer-Commins (David) and Frances Blazer, grandchildren William and Emma Blazer, and her brother, Assemblyman Bill Magee and his wife Jeanette. Special thanks to Charlene Burnor and Michelle Buczek for their care. There will be a private service followed by a wake at the Black Stallion in Vernon where friends were invited to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice and Palliative Care.
