Matt, Small and marijuana win in Fayetteville

Following the counting of absentee ballots, the Onondaga County Board of Elections has announced that Democrat Mark Matt and Mike Small of the independent Balance Party have earned spots on the Fayetteville village board of trustees.

It will be Matt’s first term on the board. Small returns to the board for a sixth term.

The vote tallies were:

Mark Matt (D) – 583

Mike Small (B) – 518

Casey Cleary (D) – 471

By a vote of 459 to 438, Fayetteville voters narrowly supported allowing marijuana dispensaries, but they overwhelmingly rejected allowing lounges for marijuana consumption in the village, 514 to 390.

Onondaga County Elections Commissioner Dustin Czarny indicated the pace of voting was very brisk, with a vote being processed every 1.15 minutes throughout the 15 hours the polls were open.

More news on the Fayetteville election will be published in next week’s Eagle Bulletin.
