DeWitt Chief of Police John Anton reports that on Dec. 28, 2019 at approximately 1 p.m., the DeWitt Police Department assisted the Colonie Police Department (Latham, NY) in apprehending a Bank Robbery suspect.
On December 27, 2019 at about 4:36 p.m., the Colonie Police Department received a hold up alarm call from the Pioneer Savings Bank, located at 1761 Central Ave. in Albany, NY. It was determined that a robbery had occurred.
The suspect entered the bank, approached the teller and demanded money. There was no weapon displayed or observed, but the suspect kept a hand inside of his jacket. The suspect was given an amount of cash and then fled on foot. It was later determined that the suspect arrived and left in a gray or silver Mercedes Benz SUV.
No customers were in the bank during the robbery, nor was anyone injured. Investigators of the Colonie Police Department were able to positively identify the suspect as Christopher M. Seamans, age 41, of East Syracuse, NY.
On December 28, 2019, the Colonie Police Department requested the assistance of the Town of DeWitt Police Department in apprehending the suspect.
At about 1:15 p.m. on this date, patrol units from the Town of DeWitt Police Department surveilled a residence on James Street, in the Town of DeWitt, and subsequently conducted a traffic stop on the suspect vehicle, which was operated by the suspect, Christopher M. Seamans. He was taken into custody without incident and turned over to the Colonie Police Department Investigators.
The Colonie Police Department, with the assistance of the New York State Police, executed search warrants at the suspect’s residence, and his vehicle, where evidence related to the robbery were recovered. The cash from the bank had not been located.
Seamans was charged with robbery in the third degree and grand larceny in the 4th degree in the Colonie Justice Court.
