Self-Direct Inc., a Baldwinsville-based home health care agency, has moved to a new office on Maple Road.
President Patricia Palumbo said the agency officially relocated Nov. 23 to the 14.7-acre property, which once was home to the Jehovah’s Witnesses Kingdom Hall.
“It was the perfect opportunity for us right now, but it gives us an opportunity to expand with the land,” Palumbo said.
Self-Direct previously was located on Oswego Street in the village of Baldwinsville. Parking was always a challenge, Palumbo said. The new office has approximately 68 parking spaces, according to The Pei Lin Team of Keller Williams Syracuse.
Palumbo Family Realty LLC purchased the parcel for $525,000 in August, according to the Onondaga County Office of Real Property Services.
Palumbo said Self-Direct built out office space within the building, replaced wallpaper with fresh coats of paint, and updated the phone and lighting systems.
“I think everybody’s enjoying it,” she said.
The COVID-19 pandemic has posed challenges to many health care businesses like Self-Direct.
“We’re working through COVID as it shows its ugly face on a daily basis,” Palumbo said.
Palumbo said the company has had to contend with ever-changing policies and procedures as well as the cost of personal protective equipment.
“It’s pretty intense,” she said.
Founded in 2001, Self-Direct provides in-home supportive services to older people and those dealing with dementia, Alzheimer’s and traumatic brain injury. The agency also has an office in Utica.
