Hamilton — The first Jazz at Noon event of 2016 will be presented from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 9, at the Palace Theater Underground, located at 19 Utica St. in Hamilton.
The event, hosted by trumpeter Jim McDowell, will feature two top Syracuse musicians: vibraphonist/percussionist, Jimmy Johns, and Symphoria bassist, Darryl Pugh, as well as performances by surprise guest vocalists.
Although this will be its first iteration in 2016, it’s not the first time for the new series. The Underground’s unveiling and Jazz at Noon pilot event last November played to a packed house of rapt listeners who enjoyed the best of regional talent in the Underground’s laid-back, nightclub atmosphere.
“It was a huge success thanks to the efforts of our many volunteers and especially local musicians and Broadway composers Jim McDowell and Dianne Adams McDowell,” said AATP Executive Director, Kenn Watt. “They dazzled audiences with their spectacular original music at our September gala opening, and now they’re helping us get this series rolling. It’s a great way to entice audiences to see our new underground space, and we’re very excited about its future.”
The bi-monthly series hopes to not just entertain, but strengthen partnerships with Central New York musicians by highlighting their talents in the new dedicated space known as the “Palace Underground.”
While admission is free to the public, there is a $5 suggested donation. An additional a la carte lunch menu will also be available.
