Manlius — More than 40 local businesses in the greater Manlius area will be offering coupons and deals that are good from Saturday, Nov. 28 through Jan. 9 as part of the Greater Manlius Chamber of Commerce Shop Small Business Saturday campaign.
“We’re [chamber of commerce] always trying to reach out and do stuff for businesses and the community — that’s what it’s all about,” said Jeannine Masucci, owner of Manlius Jewelry and chairperson for the campaign. “The businesses seem to be really excited.”
A flyer with coupons has been created and 25 local businesses have provided special coupons for them. The flyers will be sent to residences throughout the town, and will also be available at the participating businesses.
Some of the 25 businesses offering coupons include Fashion Exchange, Ace Village Hardware, Paola Kay, The Wine House, Manlius Liquors, Four Seasons, Murphy’s Specialized Pastry, The Heckled Hen, Uno Pizzeria and Grill, Manlius Jewelry and Sweet Frog.
The event officially kicks off with a networking event for the more than 40 businesses that will be participating Nov. 19, where they will receive “Shop Local” tote bags filled with the coupon flyers and other special items from businesses to provide to customers who shop during this campaign.
Masucci said that, in the past, the buy local campaign has focused on the American Express sponsored Shop Small Saturday on the day after Black Friday to promote the importance of spending dollars at the local level, but this year’s campaign will go through Jan. 9. She stressed the importance of not only shopping at local businesses during the holidays, but also during any other time of the year.
“Although the name is ‘Small Business Saturday’ we want to encourage people to come into our shops on any day,” said Masucci. “There’s so much to offer from our local businesses and it really helps our local economy to support these people.”
