East Syracuse-resident Christina Wright is one of 28 recipients of the American Nurses Association – New York 2016 Future Nurse Leader Awards. Wright graduated in May from Le Moyne College in Syracuse.

Started in 2014 to recognize the high quality of students graduating from nursing schools in New York and foster engagement and ongoing professional development, the award is given to graduating students in honor of their scholarship, professional dedication and commitment to community service.
Wright’s nomination highlighted her work as a “highly effective” peer mentor and tutor, noting especially her role in a student trip to Belize, during which students provided community health services. In addition to her fundraising efforts supporting the trip, Wright was a key organizer for the trip, planning ahead to acquire health education materials in English and Spanish. Her nominator wrote, “In general, Christina Wright exemplifies the characteristics of a Future Nurse Leader. She embodies the Le Moyne mission, which is to prepare its members for leadership and service in their personal and professional lives to promote a more just society.”
“Congratulations to Christina and to the rest of the 2016 cohort of Future Nurse Leaders. A key part of the mission of ANA-NY is to support and encourage nurses as they take on leadership roles in patient care, healthcare administration and healthcare policy. This is a profoundly impressive group of nurses and we look forward to seeing them excel as they embark on the next stages of their professional careers,” said Elizabeth Mahoney, president of ANA-NY.
