Amboy Presbyterian Church turns 175
2020 marks the 175th anniversary, the terquasquicentennial, of the Amboy Presbyterian Church.
In December of 1845, a group of people met to form the Amboy Presbyterian Society.
The land was donated by the Hinsdale family where the church still stands today.
A lot has happened in the long history of the church since that day with several exciting events along the way, including: a 100th anniversary celebration in 1945; becoming a Yoked Parish with the Belle Isle Methodist Church in 1962; a 150th anniversary celebration in 1995; officially becoming “Amboy Belle Isle United Church” in 1998 after the Belle Isle church building burned in 1991.
The 175th Anniversary Committee had planned several events to be held during the month of September, to commemorate this milestone.
Unfortunately, the 2020 coronavirus pandemic has changed a lot of plans, not only in our area, but throughout the state, the country, and even world-wide.
The committee has decided to postpone the public events until 2021, for the safety and health of everyone.
“We will continue making plans and deciding on dates, dependent upon the status of the pandemic in the spring of 2021,” the church announced in a press release.
