United Methodist Church plans events
By Rev. Dr. Joellyn Tuttle
The congregations of Skaneateles United Methodist Church and Holy Trinity Lutheran Church will host a Community Soup and Bread Supper followed by Worship with the Imposition of Ashes and Communion on Wednesday, February 14; supper begins at 6pm, with worship at 7 pm at the Skaneateles United Methodist Church, 26 Jordan St.
The act of sharing this simple meal together reminds us to humbly serve God and each other.
The ashes help us recall that we are mortal, with flaws; but are still loved by God. And the Sacrament of Communion is open to anyone who wishes to recognize and strengthen their relationship with God. Vegetarian and Gluten-free options will be available. Nursery Care for children 5 years old and younger is provided during the worship service. Members of the Skaneateles community are welcome to this event. Call Skaneateles UM Church weekdays 9am -1 pm at 315-685-5963, if you have any questions.
Community Adult Book Study Offered
Skaneateles United Methodist Church will be offering a seven-week study using the book Final Words from the Cross by Adam Hamilton. The study, led by Anne Lee, begins Thursday, February 15 at 7 pm in the Gathering Room of the Skaneateles United Methodist Church. Each class includes a DVD presentation by the author and the opportunity to explore these words spoken by Christ as he suffered as it might have been told by a character witnessing the event. Each week will cover a different chapter in the book, and each chapter highlights one of the phrases, the “word,” spoken at different times by Jesus during his crucifixion. Class discussion will focus on the meaning of Jesus’ dying words for our lives today. Books will be available at the class sessions. To sign-up for the class, please call the church office at 315-685-5963, Mon -Fri, 9am –1pm. This study is open to all members of the larger Skaneateles Area Community.
