Bradstreet, Costello, Marti and Kenn also win their unopposed races
Joe Deyo will be the next highway superintendent for the town of Nelson, after he defeated his two opponents by nearly 100 votes in Tuesday’s election.
The unofficial results as posted on the Madison County Board of Elections website, have Deyo with 351 votes, Ron Richardson placed second with 255 votes, and Tim Kent placed third with 36 votes.
There were a total of 660 ballots cast in the race, according to the county board of elections.
“It looks good; I’m relieved it’s over,” Deyo told the Republican. “It was my first attempt at any public office — it probably wasn’t stressful until the last hour. All three candidates ran a good campaign. The great thing was there was opposition, it gave voters choices instead of the normal unopposed races.”
Deyo will succeed retiring Highway Superintendent Jack Sevier, who has worked in the town highway department for more than 30 years.
Nelson voters also elected four other candidates for town positions on Nov. 7, although all four of those were unopposed races.
According to the board of elections results:
- Roger Bradstreet was reelected town supervisor with 451 votes. There were also 14 write-in votes and 195 undervotes, or people who did not vote for the supervisor position on their ballot.
- Deborah Costello was reelected town clerk with 516 votes. There were also 2 write-in votes and 142 undervotes.
- Jen Marti was reelected to the town board with 292 votes and Deborah Kenn was elected to her first term on the town board with 425 votes. There were also 12 write-in votes and 591 undervotes.
