The New York State Constitution requires that every 20 years the people
decide if a Constitutional Convention should be held to consider amendments to the State Constitution. The purpose of this Ballot Question is to allow the voters of New York State to determine whether a Constitutional Convention will be held in 2019. Learn more at this presentation. Friends of the Marcellus Free Library Fall Book Sale
Friday, Oct. 20: 4 to 7 p.m.
This is a preview event. Admission cost $5 for the opportunity to look and buy ahead of the regular sale. Friends of the Marcellus Library members are free. Memberships available at the door. Saturday, October 21: 10 to 5 p.m.
Sunday, Oct. 22: 1 to 5 p.m. Bag Sale: Monday, Oct. 23 through Friday, Oct. 27 during regular library hours. $3 a bag (provided). The last day for book donations for the fall book sale is Sunday, Oct. 8.
Bare Bones Trombone Quartet in Concert on Sunday, Oct. 29 at 2 p.m.
in the Friends Community Room. Bare Bones Trombone Quartet will perform selections from different genres of jazz including: Tin Pan Alley, Ragtime, Blues, Dixieland, Swing, Roaring Twenties and Big Band. Refreshments with a meet and greet with the artists will take place following the performance.
Growing and Aging Reading and Discussion Group, Thursday, Oct. 12, 6:30 to 8 p.m. Led by Matthew Stewart, PhD student, Syracuse University.

How does our perception of ourselves transform as we grow older? In what ways does aging change how we view the concept of “age” changed over time? Join Matthew Stewart to discuss the texts in this series that explore these and other questions about entering middle age, growing older, caring for aged loved ones, and finding satisfaction in later stages of life. For October we will be reading “In Our Prime” by Patricia Cohen. Books are available at the library on the book club shelf.
Stories to Share Writers’ Workshop to be held on Mondays, Oct. 16, 23, 30 from 2 to 4 p.m. Registration required. Based on the theory that good writing and storytelling are keys to a healthy mind, these workshops enliven memories and involve participants in a stimulating group activity. Workshop participants write about their lives, recording them for their children and grandchildren, themselves, and their communities, preserving family and community histories. By writing, reading aloud, and revising their stories and memoirs, participants will experience a sense of accomplishment, enhance mental alertness, and increased well being. Though aimed at senior citizens, this is for participants of all ages. are welcome. Please bring either a notebook or a laptop to write on.
Truth Be Told Non-Fiction Book Club on Wednesday, Oct. 18. 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the Large Tutor Room. This non-fiction book club will meet every third Wednesday in the tutoring room. The library will provide coffee and tea. For October, we will be reading “Mayflower: A Story of Courage, Community and War” by Nathaniel Philbrick. Philbrick will be speaking at the FOCL Lecture Series on October 24.
Food for Thought Cookbook Club, Thursday, Oct. 26, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Do you love to cook and talk about food? Love to look through cookbooks or read food-themed books? Then this is the book club for you. Each month we’ll choose a theme or a book, each person brings a prepared dish to share and the cookbook that inspired the recipe, and we will have a potluck while discussing the cookbooks and the food. For October, please bring soup, bread or any other fall-themed food and cookbook. The library will supply beverages. Come hungry!
Marcellus Free Library Trivia Night hosted by Jake Widrick at the Lakeside Vista Restaurant, 2437 Route 174, Marietta, NY. Thursday, Oct. 19 starting at 6:30 p.m. Please make reservations early at 315-636-1083.
All ages welcome and it’s free to play. The maximum number of participants for each team is 6 people. There will be prizes for the winning team. Food, beer and fun!
Friends of the Marcellus Free Library Monthly Meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 25 at 11:30 p.m. in the Friends Community Room. Please bring a bag lunch. Dessert and beverage will be provided. The program will be “Finding Your Next Good Read” presented by Assistant Director Amanda Perrine. Open to the public and new members always welcome.
