The following Events for September 2017 are being offered at the Camillus Senior Center 25 ½ First St. Camillus, NY.
The senior center offers daily lunches served at noon Monday – Friday. Seniors 60+ and their spouses of any age are eligible. Suggested contribution is only $3. Guests under 60 are $6. Call the center at 315-672-5820 for more information or to sign up.
Catfish – Drivers Needed! CatFISH is a volunteer organization that provides transportation to medical and dental appointments for ambulatory senior citizens who reside in the Town of Camillus. Rides are given on Tuesday, Wednesdays and Thursdays. If you would like to help your neighbor and become a CatFISH driver, please call 701-5949- Drivers are scheduled for only one or two days per month.
Stretch, Strengthen and Balance
All seniors are invited to our next session now through Oct. 19 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., $15 per person /6 week session (12 classes) This program includes exercises to accommodate seniors of all ability levels. Strength and balance training exercises are done either in a seated position or standing with a chair.
Tai Chi Chih
Release energy draining habits such as impatience, anxiety, tiredness and tension by learning and practicing the Tai Chi Chih movements (either standing or sitting). You will replace those poor habits with uplifting and invigorating energies that will provide calmness, serenity, peace and joy. The eight week session is instructed by Neena Mitchell, an accredited Tai Chi Chih instructor. Wednesday mornings starting Sept. 13 to Nov. 1, 10:45 to 11:45 a.m., $25 per person.
Painted Treasures
Come paint a lovely project. All supplies included. Thursday, Sept. 21 from 10 to 11:45 a.m. we will be painting a beautiful pair of salt and pepper shakers with a tray, $15 per person. Please stop by the office to view a sample or photo of the project. Please call 315-672-5820 to register.
Card Stamping
Make beautiful homemade greeting cards using the rubber stamping technique. All materials are provided.

Art Club
Our drawing and painting class has been suspended until we can find an instructor. (If you know of someone who might be qualified and interested, please let us know) In the meantime, we will have Art Club for artists who want to meet up and work on their own projects. AARP Smart Driver Course
Learn defensive driving techniques to keep you safe on the road and receive a reduction on your car insurance. Wednesday, Sept. 20 or Wednesday, Oct. 18 from 8:30 to 3 p.m. You must be here for the Entire Class! $20 for AARP members/$25 for non-members. Make checks payable to AARP – a check for each person – You may bring a lunch or order lunch at the center – Participants should bring their unexpired driver’s license and AARP membership card if applicable. Class size is limited so early registration is recommended. Phone registration will not be accepted. Payment must accompany registration form. Call the center for more information.

Monday, Sept. 25 1 to 3 p.m., $2 cash per person. Why not sign up beforehand?

Trivia Day
Come and have a little fun with lunch! Teams or tables will compete against each other to answer a variety of trivia questions. Prizes awarded. Wednesday, Sept. 27, noon to 1 p.m. No charge to play but a donation for lunch. Sign up at the front desk or call the center at 315-672-5820.
How to use the Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
This class is designed to train the public in the use of an AED. An AED makes it possible for people to respond to a medical emergency when defibrillation is required. The senior center has an AED. All senior center volunteers are encouraged to attend and other center participants are welcome as well. Thursday, Sept. 28, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. There is no charge for this class but advanced registration is required. Call 315-672-5820 or stop by the office to register. This class is offered by Rick Powell of the Camillus Fire Department.
Our neighborhood advisor from the Salvation Army, Megan Coon, is here to help with SNAP and HEAP applications, phone discounts, EISEP and other services. She is here on the first Thursday of each month from 11:30 to 12:40 p.m. There is no charge for this service. You may reach a neighborhood advisor by calling 315-479-3607.
