As part of an Eagle Scout project, Paul Schmid of Boy Scout Troop 119 built a memorial to honor veterans.
On Sunday, Sept. 18, Schmid was joined by members of the Betsy Baldwin Chapter, NSDAR, in the Myrtle Grove Cemetery, Lysander, to complete his project, honoring veterans buried there. Members from the Betsy Baldwin Chapter who participated in the event were Luella Oakes, Carolyn Dreher, Judi Dreher-Wiberg, Jane Jacobs, Valerie Cole and Jacobs’ grandson, Carlo Gennario, a CAR (Children of the American Revolution) member.
In July, Betsy Baldwin Chapter along with two other DAR chapters, two SAR (Sons of the American Revolution) chapters, and Sons of the American Legion held a grave marking ceremony for Elias Cady at the Merritt Cemetery, Granby, New York.
Any woman, age 18 and up, interested in becoming a member of the DAR can get more information at dar.org/national-society/become-member/membership-interest-form.
