The Skaneateles Education Foundation will hold its second
annual jazzED for Education fundraiser on Friday, September 30th at the Mandana
Barn, 1274 Lacy Road. The event will run from 6:00-11:00 pm. jazzED for Education is
now SEF’s primary annual sponsored event.
The genesis for the theme of this event comes from a beloved piece of Skaneateles
history. In the summers of 1965, ’66 and ’67, the Soda Ash Jazz Band rented an old
barn on Benson Road and opened their doors to crowds every weekend. People came
to the Jazz Barn™ in droves to mingle and listen to the band play.
As a tribute to this fondly remembered moment in time from 50 years ago, SEF
welcomes Soda Ash Six with some of their original band members, along with three
additional jazz ensembles to entertain guests at the Mandana Barn, just down the road
from the old, long-gone but not-forgotten Jazz Barn™.
Advertised as “a swank affair”, the invitation promises attendees “Cold Drinks, Good
Eats & Hot Jazz”.
Playing “Hot Jazz” at the barn will be a Skaneateles High School Jazz Ensemble from
6:00 – 6:45, after which the bar will open and the live entertainment will continue with
performances from the Dave Wilber Sextet, Soda Ash Six, the Anna Vogel Jazz Trio and
duo Carol Bryant & Bruce Wood.
The “Good Eats” offered will be complimentary appetizers and desserts from Moro’s
Kitchen, and Tonzi’s Food Truck will be onsite offering several unique and tasty items for
purchase throughout the evening.
“Cold Drinks” can be purchase from the cash bar. Last Shot Distillery will be onsite from
7:00-9:00 offering tastings of their locally hand-crafted spirits.
All guests will take home a souvenir pint glass to commemorate the event.

“2015 was our first year hosting this event and we drew jazz-lovers from near and far,
young and old,” said Kristi Peterson, an SEF board member who is working with the
jazzED planning committee. “The Mandana Barn is such a great venue for live music.”
“Last year we sold 180 tickets, so we are expecting about 200 guests this year,”
reported Heather Carroll, Executive Director of SEF. “It’s going to be a great night. Don’t
