Decision follows resolution by DeWitt Town Board
Centro and the Great New York State Fair has announced that Centro will operate a Park-N-Ride location at ShoppingTown Mall in Dewitt during the 2016 fair despite previously announcing it would be discontinued. This announcement comes following a resolution from the DeWitt Town Board that stated their concerns about the discontinuation of the shuttle service.
At a special meeting of the DeWitt Town Board on Aug. 15, the board unanimously passed a resolution requesting Centro re-establish their Park-N-Ride service from ShoppingTown Mall to the Great New York State Fair because, “many Central New York residents rely on this service when attending the fair.”
On Aug. 16, New York State Agriculture and Markets released a press release that announced the restoration of this service. “After careful consideration, we are pleased to announce the restoration of the ShoppingTown Mall Park-N-Ride location, which provides an option for fairgoers living in the eastern part of Onondaga County. Our mission is to transport people in a safe, efficient manner and our Park-N-Ride system does just that,” said Centro Chief Executive Officer Rick Lee.
According to the press release, the shuttle will operate daily during the fair beginning at 9:30 a.m., with buses running each half hour until midnight. Shuttle ticket prices are $2 for adults, or $1 for those with disabilities, seniors 65 and up and children age 6 to 9. Last year, Centro provided about 34,000 rides between ShoppingTown and the fair.
There are two other Park-N-Ride locations closer to the fairground: Long Branch Park in Liverpool and Destiny USA in Syracuse, both of which will provide service to the fairgrounds.
